Abstract

The main objective of this program is to improve the knowledge, awareness, and skills of fourth-grade students at SDN Inpres Bertingkat Waena in preventing sports injuries through interactive and contextual socialization activities. This activity also aims to provide educational recommendations to teachers and schools so that injury prevention becomes part of physical education routines. The benefits of this program are not only experienced by students through enhanced sports health literacy but also by schools in fostering a safe sports culture that supports children’s holistic development. More broadly, this program represents a tangible contribution to promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among elementary school students. The evaluation results showed an increase in students’ understanding of the basic concepts of sports injury prevention. Students were able to explain simple steps that can be taken before and after exercising, as well as demonstrate positive attitudes toward incorporating these practices into their daily activities. Teachers also expressed full support and readiness to integrate the socialization materials into physical education lessons.

Abstract

Physical education in elementary schools is crucial for developing physical fitness, healthy habits, and cognitive skills. The Senam Anak Indonesia Hebat (SAIH) Program aims to promote an active lifestyle and improve learning abilities among children through enjoyable, age-appropriate movement activities. However, limited empirical data exist on its effectiveness, particularly in Heram District, Jayapura City. This study addresses the gap by examining the impact of SAIH on physical responses and learning concentration among Grade IV students at SDN Inpres Bertingkat Waena. Using a quantitative descriptive method, 30 students were purposively sampled. Physical responses were measured through heart rate monitors and activity observations, while concentration was assessed with age-appropriate tests. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. Results showed a significant reduction in heart rate (from 98.3 to 86.7 bpm) and respiratory rate (from 25.1 to 20.9 breaths per minute), alongside a notable increase in concentration scores (from 62.4 to 78.6). A negative correlation between physiological measures and concentration indicates that improved physical stability supports better learning focus.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among university students remains a significant public health issue, including among students of Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (Penjaskesrek), who are expected to maintain optimal physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. Continuous exposure to cigarette smoke may negatively affect cardiorespiratory function by impairing oxygen transport and reducing aerobic endurance. This study aimed to determine the effect of smoking exposure intensity on the cardiorespiratory capacity of Penjaskesrek students. This research employed a quantitative analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 40 Penjaskesrek students selected through purposive sampling. Smoking exposure intensity was measured using the Brinkman Index based on the number of cigarettes consumed per day and duration of smoking, while cardiorespiratory capacity was assessed using the Multistage Fitness Test (bleep test) to estimate VO₂max values. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that 65% of respondents were classified as light smokers and 35% as moderate smokers. Most respondents had moderate cardiorespiratory capacity levels. Statistical analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between smoking exposure intensity and cardiorespiratory capacity (r = -0.648; p = 0.001). Students with moderate smoking intensity demonstrated lower mean VO₂max values compared to light smokers. These findings indicate that higher smoking exposure intensity contributes to decreased cardiorespiratory capacity among Penjaskesrek students. Therefore, health promotion and smoking prevention programs are necessary to improve students’ awareness of the adverse effects of smoking on physical fitness and long-term health.
