Abstract

This study is based on the limited use of learning media which causes low learning outcomes of students in beginning reading. This study was conducted with the aim of developing a design, measuring the feasibility, and assessing the effectiveness of letter puzzle board media to improve the reading skills of grade I students at SD Negeri Sekaran 01 in Semarang City. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE development stages. Techniques in data collection through interviews, observation, documentation, written tests and questionnaires. While data analysis techniques in the form of normality test, T test, and N-gain test. The findings showed that the learning media for the letter puzzle board of the make a match model received a “very feasible” category based on the results of expert validation with a score of 93% (media expert) and 91% (material expert). The T-test results obtained indicated that there was a significant difference between the pretest and posstest results. Teacher response questionnaires (98%) and students (95%) who obtained the category “very feasible”. The N-Gain test results obtained a “medium” category (0.89) on a small scale and “high” (0.85) on a large scale. These results indicate that the letter puzzle board media of the make a match model is effective and very feasible to use to improve the initial reading ability of first grade students of SD Negeri Sekaran 01 Semarang. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini didasari oleh terbatasnya penggunaan media pembelajaran yang menyebabkan hasil belajar peserta didik dalam membaca permulaan tergolong rendah. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk mengembangkan desain, mengukur kelayakan, dan menilai efektivitas media papan puzzle huruf guna meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa kelas I di SD Negeri Sekaran 01 di Kota Semarang. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development (R&D) dengan menggunakan tahapan pengembangan ADDIE. Teknik dalam pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dokumentasi, tes tertulis dan angket. Sedangkan teknik analisis data berupa uji normalitas, uji T, dan uji N-gain. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran papan puzzle huruf model make a match mendapat kategori “sangat layak” berdasarkan hasil validasi ahli dengan skor 93% (ahli media) dan 91% (ahli materi). Hasil uji T yang diperoleh mengindikasikan ada perbedaan signifikan antara hasil pretest dan posstest. Angket tanggapan guru (98%) dan peserta didik (95%) yang memperoleh kategori “sangat layak”. Hasil pengujian N-Gain diperoleh kategori “sedang” (0,89) pada skala kecil dan "tinggi” (0,85) pada skala besar. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa media papan puzzle huruf model make a match efektif dan sangat layak digunakan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan peserta didik kelas I SD Negeri Sekaran 01 Semarang.
