Abstract

Anemia is a common health problem and is often related to a person's nutritional status. This study aims to analyze the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) with hemoglobin (Hb) levels and its implications for the fitness status of employees. This study used a cross-sectional design with 36 employees as respondents. Data were collected through direct measurement of BMI, Hb levels using the Easy Touch GCHb tool, and fitness status with the Harvard Step Test. Analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had low Hb levels (55.6%), obese BMI (52.8%), and inadeqaute fitness status (55.5%). There was a significant relationship between gender and Hb levels (p=0.003) and between BMI and Hb levels (p=0.048). However, there was no significant relationship between Hb level and fitness status (p=0.660). These findings suggest that BMI and gender affect hemoglobin levels, but hemoglobin levels are not directly related to physical fitness levels. Understanding the relationship between nutritional status and Hb levels is important for anemia prevention and fitness improvement.

Abstract

This research explores the use of code-mixing and code-switching in the YouTube collaboration video "Glitch in the Matrix" by Nessie Judge and Cinta Laura. The study aims to provide a comprehensive examination of these linguistic phenomena within the specific context of the video. Employing qualitative methods and a sociolinguistic approach, the research demonstrates that code-mixing and code-switching are natural occurrences among multilingual speakers. Data were collected through systematic observation, categorization, and analysis of the video content. Nessie Judge and Cinta Laura, both multilingual individuals, serve as the subjects of this study due to their frequent use of code-mixing and code-switching. The findings reveal numerous instances of code-mixing, including the integration of English words into Indonesian phrases and the introduction of English phrases into Indonesian discourse. The study also identified various types of code-mixing: inner code-mixing, outer code-mixing, and hybrid code-mixing. Regarding code-switching, language alternation was observed with specific reasons or purposes, classified based on the direction of the switch, either from English to Indonesian or from Indonesian to English. The analysis utilized the theoretical framework of Criper and Widdowson (1975), which provided a foundation for understanding the sociolinguistic dimensions of these phenomena.

Abstract

Recent studies have shown that women's language features (WLF) increasingly function as rhetorical strategies in professional discourse rather than mere gender markers, yet research in globally mediated speaking contexts such as TED Talks remains limited. This study aims to examine the types of WLF used in Jennifer Parlamis' TED Talk entitled "Why Venting Doesn't Help You with Anger" and to analyze their pragmatic and rhetorical functions in professional public speaking. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data analyzed using Lakoff's (1975) framework, further interpreted through Holmes (1995) and Coates (2015). The findings reveal that emphatic stress emerged as the dominant feature, functioning to reinforce key messages and strengthen persuasive impact, while lexical hedges served to maintain an approachable conversational tone rather than signal uncertainty. Overall, WLF in this talk operates not as markers of gendered communication, but as intentional rhetorical strategies that enhance clarity, credibility, and emotional engagement with a global audience.
