Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB most often attacks the lungs (pulmonary TB), but can also affect other organs such as the kidneys, bones and brain (extra-pulmonary TB). This disease is characterized by the formation of granulomas (small masses of immune cells) in infected tissue. TB is transmitted through the air and can be serious if left untreated, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems. Purpose: The aim of this research is to determine the effect of providing information about how to phlegm on the quality and volume of phlegm. Method: The method used in this research was Quasi Experimental with one treatment (one-group pretest-posttest design). Result: The results of the research from 30 sputum samples suspected of TB at the Karawang Kulon Community Health Center, the results from before being given information on the quality of sputum samples which did not meet the requirements for examination were 29 and after being given information on the quality of sputum which met the examination requirements were 28. The results from before being given information on the volume of sputum samples those who did not meet the examination requirements were 28 and after being given information on the volume of sputum that met the requirements for examination, the number was 28. From the results of the Wilcoxon test, the Asym value was obtained. Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 < significant value 0.05. So, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence on providing information about how to sputum on the quality of phlegm for checking acid-fast bacteria at the Karawang Kulon Community Health Center.

Abstract

ABSTRACT One factor that can threaten public health is ectoparasite infection. Pediculus humanus capitis is one of them (Saghafipour et al., 2017). Direct transmission is the way Pediculus humanus capitis infection spreads. This occurs when an infected person comes into contact with their head or comes into contact with clothing, hair combs, hats, towels, or other personal items as media (Abd El Raheem et al., 2015). Disruptions in the self-esteem of female students, decreased concentration while studying, anemia, allergic rhinitis, and other issues can be caused by Pediculosis humanus capitis infection (Sciscione and Krause-Parello, 2007). Diseases caused by the parasite Pediculus humanus capitis are still widely found around the world, especially in developing and poor countries. It is still considered a neglected disease ((Esy Maryati, 2018) (Zulinda, Yolazenia, and Zahtamal, 2017)). The pesantren is one example of an environment where Pediculus humanus capitis is often exposed. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of hygiene concerning cases of Pediculus humanus capitis infection among female students at the Tarbiyatul Banin pesantren at the elementary and junior high school levels. The research method used is microscopic. This study involved female students from the Tarbiyatul Banin pesantren at the elementary and junior high school levels. A total sample of 44 female students was taken using this method. This study employs descriptive data analysis. Based on this research, the results show that there are 31 female students (70,45%) with a positive exposure to head lice, while 13 female students (29,55%) tested negative for head lice exposure. This study concludes that female students at the Tarbiyatul Banin pesantren are significantly afflicted with Pediculus humanus capitis infection, with 31 out of 44 children infected. This underscores the importance of maintaining better hygiene to prevent the spread of infection. Keywords: Scalp and Hair, Pediculus Humanus Capitis, Islamic Boarding School.
