Abstract

ABSTRACTWorld tea consumption increased by 3.5% over the last decade. The black tea commodity is projected to grow by 2% in the next decade. Black tea is one of Indonesia's leading export commodities that has a role in fulfilling the world's demand for black tea. The decline in black tea commodity exports can be a threat to the competitiveness of Indonesian black tea. The decrease in the area of tea plantations due to land conversion has led to a decrease in the volume of tea production. The purpose of this study was to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesia's black tea commodity (HS Code: 090240) in export destination markets, namely Rusia, the United States, China, Germany and Australia, and to determine the relationship between RCA and export value and volume using the correlation test. This research uses secondary data obtained through the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Trade Center (ITC). This study uses data for ten years from 2012 to 2022. The analysis method used is Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) analysis and correlation test. The results showed that the RCA value of Indonesian black tea commodities was competitive in the five export destination countries, namely Rusia, the United States, China, Germany and Australia. The RSCA value obtained from the five countries is positive, which means that Indonesian black tea commodities have a comparative advantage in export destination countries. The correlation test shows that the relationship between RCA value and export value and export volume in the United States and Germany is very strong and the relationship is strong in China. However, in Russia and Australia the correlation value is not significant.

Abstract

Environmental damage, particularly in the field of agriculture, remains a hot topic of national discourse. On the other hand, human demands for natural resources and agriculture are on the rise in tandem with population growth. In response to these circumstances, a new paradigm for the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural systems and lifestyles has emerged in Indonesia, known as permaculture, which embodies ethical principles. The objective of this research is to examine how the ethics of permaculture can serve as a scientific solution to environmental and economic sustainability, aiming to alleviate concerns among organic farmers. The research is conducted at Kebun Hanif Regenerative Culture in West Bandung Regency. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method. The research findings indicate that the application of permaculture ethics in Kebun Hanif demonstrates commendable environmental sustainability, as evidenced by various indicators such as soil physical, biological, and chemical properties, which signify fertile soil. Economic sustainability through the application of permaculture ethics is also deemed viable based on a business feasibility analysis. Consequently, farmer anxieties have diminished because, by adopting permaculture ethics, not only is environmental sustainability achieved, but economic viability and sustainability are also proven.

Abstract

AbstractTea is one of Indonesia's leading export commodities that has contributed to the country's foreign exchange. World tea consumption, which has increased over the last decade, needs to be accompanied by the ability to fulfill tea supply. Problems in tea plantations can reduce the competitiveness of Indonesian tea and pose a serious threat to the 1.3 million people whose economy depends on tea commodities. The use of high-yielding varieties can improve tea quality and become a solution to maintain the competitiveness of Indonesian tea commodities. The efficiency of the assembly of new superior varieties of tea needs to be supported by the availability of gene sources from germplasm collections. Tea germplasm management is needed to preserve genetic resources and ensure the sustainability of superior varieties of Indonesian tea plants. This study aims to determine the direct use value and indirect use value of tea germplasm. The research location was in the experimental plantation of the Research Institute for Tea and Cinchona Gambung.  The analysis method used was Total Economic Value (TEV). The total economic value of the tea germplasm plantation at PPTK Gambung was estimated at approximately IDR 167 billion, predominantly derived from direct use values. This finding underscores the importance of comprehensive economic valuation in supporting tea germplasm conservation and ensuring the long-term sustainability of tea plantations. Keywords: Germplasm, Tea, Total Economic Value, Sustainability.
