Abstract

This study explores the integration of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach into Indonesian language learning at MI Maarif 02 Bajing Kulon. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research examines how STEAM-based learning affects students' language skills, creativity, and 21st-century competencies. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers, classroom observations, and document analysis. The study found that project-based and inquiry-based learning models, which combined various STEAM disciplines, effectively enhanced students’ Indonesian language proficiency. For example, students engaged in activities such as designing water filtration systems and creating persuasive posters, which required them to apply language skills in real-world contexts. This interdisciplinary approach not only improved vocabulary and sentence structure but also fostered critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. However, the study also identified challenges, including resource limitations and the need for teacher training in STEAM pedagogy. Despite these obstacles, teachers demonstrated creativity and adaptability, using available resources and peer collaboration to implement STEAM effectively. The findings suggest that integrating STEAM into language education can transform learning by promoting active engagement, enhancing language development, and preparing students for future challenges. The study concludes that STEAM-based language education holds significant potential for reforming teaching practices in MI Maarif 02 Bajing Kulon, contributing to the holistic development of students by fostering linguistic, cognitive, and social skills essential for the modern world. Keywords: STEAM, Indonesian language learning, and MI Maarif 02 Bajing Kulon.

Abstract

Sex education is an important issue in the field of education that is not only related to biological aspects but also involves ethical dimensions, values, and human dignity. In practice, sex education is often understood in a narrow sense or trapped in an extreme dichotomy between permissive and repressive approaches, thus failing to fully develop students’ moral awareness. This article aims to examine sex education within an ethical framework through a philosophical approach as a more comprehensive and meaningful alternative. This study employs a qualitative library research method by critically reviewing literature on ethical philosophy, philosophy of education, sex education, as well as classical and contemporary Islamic ethical studies. Data analysis is conducted conceptually and reflectively by examining the ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions of sex education. The findings indicate that sex education, from a philosophical-ethical perspective, should be understood as a process of forming holistic human beings that emphasizes responsible freedom, respect for human dignity, and the internalization of moral values. Furthermore, sex education plays a significant role as a means of developing students’ moral awareness in understanding and managing sexuality wisely. Therefore, the philosophical-ethical approach provides a conceptual foundation for formulating sex education that is not merely informative but also oriented toward moral and humanistic development.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the literacy skills of elementary school students through the application of Vygotsky's theory, which emphasizes the importance of social interaction, gradual assistance, and collaborative activities in the learning process. The background of this study stems from initial findings that the literacy skills of students at MI Ma'arif 02 Bajing Kulon are still low, as evidenced by their difficulty in understanding reading content, determining main ideas, and composing coherent writing. To address these issues, this study used a classroom action research method with two cycles, which included the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. In each cycle, teachers applied small group-based learning strategies, provided gradual guidance, used trigger questions, and conducted collaborative reading and writing activities so that students could receive support according to their ability levels. The results of the study indicate that Vygotsky's theory approach has a significant positive impact on improving students' literacy skills. Before the intervention, the average literacy score of students was 62.4 with a completion rate of 32%. After the intervention in cycle I, the average score increased to 71.5 with a completion rate of 60%. In cycle II, the average score increased again to 81.2 with a mastery level of 88%. In addition to the increase in scores, observations also noted more positive changes in learning behavior, such as students' courage in reading, improved discussion skills, and independence in writing summaries. These findings confirm that support provided through social interaction and gradual guidance can help students move from their actual abilities to their potential abilities. Thus, Vygotsky's theory approach has proven effective in improving literacy skills while encouraging social development and self-confidence in elementary school students.
