Abstract

Diantaranya adalah 1) Home, 2) Embrio, 3) The Shelter, 4) Unpredictable, 5) Yggdrasil, 6) My Savior, 7) The Beginning Of An End, 8) Now, I See You, 9) Missing Piece, 10) Take Me Back To Your World, 11) ‘Ilm, dan 12) The Path.

Abstract

Sketching is a fundamental competency that must be mastered by students in Art Education programs, as it functions as a medium for visual thinking, critical observation, and the development of artistic ideas. However, sketching instruction in higher education tends to focus primarily on technical aspects and has not sufficiently integrated real-world contexts, particularly social and disaster-related issues. This study aims to design instructional content for sketching courses based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) oriented toward disaster-related themes for Art Education students. This study employed a qualitative approach using a literature review method. The research procedures included collecting relevant literature on sketching instruction, the PjBL model, and disaster education; conducting conceptual analysis; formulating learning outcomes; developing instructional content structure; and designing material descriptions, project activities, and assessment strategies. Data were obtained through document analysis and examined using descriptive qualitative techniques. The results indicate that the instructional content design was systematically organized into eight chapters: introduction, basic concepts of sketching, single-object sketching, sketching techniques and media, sketching as a visual thinking process, PjBL-based learning, disaster-oriented sketching projects, and assessment and reflection. The design integrates conceptual understanding, technical skills, visual thinking abilities, and contextual project implementation focusing on disaster-related issues. In conclusion, the PjBL-based instructional content design oriented toward disaster- related themes is considered relevant for enhancing students’ sketching skills, creativity, and social awareness of disaster phenomena. This design is expected to serve as an innovative alternative for developing contextual and meaningful art education learning in higher education.

Abstract

Indonesia is a multicultural nation whose cultural diversity constitutes both a national identity and an important foundation for character education. Nevertheless, cultural learning in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is still predominantly delivered through conventional approaches that have not fully facilitated the internalization of the philosophical values embedded in local cultures. This study aimed to describe the process of internalizing the cultural philosophy of North Sumatra through mural artwork to foster children's appreciation of Indonesia's cultural diversity. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed at PAUD Balqis. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers, and documentation of mural-based learning activities. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data credibility was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the murals represent North Sumatran cultural philosophy through illustrations of traditional houses, traditional costumes, children's figures, and cultural landscapes that embody the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, tolerance, respect, and social harmony. The internalization process occurred through observation, guided interpretation, and the contextualization of cultural values into children's daily experiences. Observation, interview, and documentation data further indicate that mural-based learning encouraged children's appreciation of Indonesia's cultural diversity, reflected in their increased curiosity about cultural differences, improved ability to recognize diverse cultural identities, and growing attitudes of respect toward diversity. These findings demonstrate that mural artwork grounded in local cultural philosophy can serve as an effective contextual learning medium for strengthening multicultural character education in early childhood.
