Abstract

Batik is one of the handicrafts that has high artistic value which has been passed down from generation to generation by the ancestors of the Indonesian nation since the Majapahit Kingdom and continues to be preserved today. However, we have discovered the reality that currently there are still many people who do not fully understand the meaning or philosophy behind batik motifs. Through this, it is necessary to have an educational process for the community, one of which can be carried out by the batik industry. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview regarding how the educational process carried out by Kampung Batik Kauman, especially Batik Gunawan Setiawan, is to provide a comprehensive understanding of batik to the public. This research was conducted in Surakarta, namely in Kauman Batik Village, precisely in Gunawan Setiawan Batik. The research method used is a qualitative research method with a case study approach. The results showed that there were several educational processes carried out by Batik Gunawan Setiawan, such as creating a batik gallery, conducting batik exhibitions and holding batik training. Furthermore, the process of batik education in the community is analyzed using Structural-Functional Theory - Radcliffe Brown as a countermeasure to tensions. As he stated that culture is not to satisfy individuals but to fulfill the social structure of society and emerge to overcome tensions such as theft of cultural identity due to the lack of public concern regarding local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development strategies of Carica Gemilang, a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME), from a sociological perspective using John W. Bennett's adaptation theory. This study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and secondary sources such as relevant journal articles. The findings reveal that Carica Gemilang implements various development strategies, including maintaining product quality, listening to customer feedback, conducting promotions and building brand image, organizing surveys and annual meetings, expanding and strengthening business networks, and holding internal briefings. These strategies are categorized into three adaptation concepts according to Bennett: Adaptive Behavior, Adaptive Strategies, and Adaptive Processes. The adopted strategies enable Carica Gemilang to adapt to changing market conditions and contribute to the improvement of the community's economic conditions. Despite challenges such as the difficult supply of carica fruit and fluctuating social media algorithms, Carica Gemilang remains effective in its operations. This study underscores the importance of adaptive strategies in MSME development. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi pengembangan Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) Carica Gemilang dalam mengembangkan usahanya dari perspektif sosiologi menggunakan teori adaptasi John W. Bennett. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi, serta sumber sekunder seperti artikel jurnal yang relevan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa UMKM Carica Gemilang menerapkan berbagai strategi pengembangan, termasuk menjaga kualitas produk, mendengarkan masukan konsumen, melakukan promosi dan membangun citra produk, mengadakan survei dan rapat tahunan, memperluas dan memperkuat jaringan usaha, serta mengadakan briefing internal. Strategi-strategi ini dikategorikan ke dalam tiga konsep adaptasi menurut Bennett: Adaptive Behavior, Adaptive Strategies, dan Adaptive Processes. Strategi yang diterapkan oleh UMKM Carica Gemilang memungkinkan mereka untuk beradaptasi dengan kondisi pasar yang terus berubah dan berkontribusi pada peningkatan kondisi perekonomian masyarakat. Meskipun terdapat tantangan seperti pasokan buah carica yang sulit dan algoritma media sosial yang berubah-ubah, UMKM Carica Gemilang tetap mampu beroperasi secara efektif. Penelitian ini menunjukkan pentingnya penerapan strategi adaptif dalam pengembangan UMKM.
