Abstract

This study aims to determine the suitability of using cocopeat as planting media at transplanting containers in the polytube of the cempaka seedlings growth. The method used in this research was implementing a trial use of cocopeat as transplanting media in the polytube and being compared to the growth of cempaka seedlings in polytubes and polybags containing topsoil. The parameters observed included percent survival (%), height (cm), and diameter (cm) of the plants. Through the t-test it was shown that the parameters of diameter, height, and percent survival of the cempaka seedlings using cocopeat as a transplanting media were significantly different than those using top soil as a transplanting media.

Abstract

The use of growth retardants widely used as a solution in the storage material for the propagation of plant species that have recalcitrant seed types. White meranti (S.assamica) is one kind of commercial timber from dipterocarp family found in Sulawesi. This species is one of the types of plants that have the type of recalcitrant seeds. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using growth retardants in the nursery. The experimental design used in this research is completely randomized design. The results showed the use of growth retardants provide excellent effectiveness in inhibiting the growth of seedling of S.assamica. Paklobutrazol of 250 ppm is a the best treatment that can provide growth inhibition. Percentage of growth inhibition of seedling age of 6 months amounted to 75,14 % (height) and 33,33% (diameter).

Abstract

This research purposes to identify the pathogen causing leaf spot in cempaka seedling and its control technique. Identify cause of disease is necessary to know precise technique control. Identification of disease was conducted in macroscopic appearances and microscopically to determine pathogens. Identification is done by using the determination key of fungi. The results showed that the early signs of leaf spot disease on cempaka seedlings in the nursery are streaks or spots on the leaf surface with distinct boundaries. Leaf spots are formed generally brown surrounded by darker boundaries. The result shows leaf spot disease on cempaka seedling was caused by fungal pathogen Colletotrichum sp. Techniques for controlling the disease can be done by isolating the infected seeds, reducing the intensity of canopy, and using the appropriate fungicides.

Abstract

Red Jabon is priority species that projected to be developed in plantation forests of North Minahasa Regency. Red Jabon is can adapt well various environmental conditions. The natural habitat of the red Jabon in North Sulawesi region was known in North Bolaang Mongondow. This study aimed to compare the growth of red jabon at the age of 1 year in North Minahasa Regency and North Bolaang Mongondow. The experiment was conducted in two (2) locations i.e. in Talawaan Village (North Minahasa Regency) and Nunuka Village (North Bolaang Mongondow). Two independent samples t test was conducted to determine the differences in height and diameter growth parameters at two test sites. The results showed that there was no difference in the growth of red Jabon between North Minahasa and North Bolaang Mongondow. The average height and diameter of red Jabon in North Minahasa Regency is at 215.84 cm and 4.34 cm, while the same parameters of North Bolaang Mongondow amounted to 231.79 cm and 4.14 cm. The development efforts on the plantations of red Jabon North Minahasa Regency need to be improved because of the environmental conditions in this region is very suitable for the growth of red Jabon.

Abstract

Langusei (Ficus minahassae (Teysm.et.Vr.) Miq) is one of the endemic flora of Sulawesi which existence is increasingly threatened. Attempts to maintain the existence of Ficus minahassae species by understanding the cultivation techniques of the langusei species, especially regarding the appropriate germination techniques, need to be addressed. This study aims to determine the level of fruit maturity and the appropriate extraction treatment for the germination of langusei seeds. The experimental design used in this study was a complete randomization design which is arranged in a factorial pattern. The first factor is the classification of the level of seed maturity based on fruit color categories: 1) Orange-brown fruit, 2) Orange-reddish fruit, 3) Red fruit, and 4) Red-black fruit, while the second factor is the fruit extraction treatment which consists of: 1) Extraction with dry wind treatment for 24 hours, 2) Extraction with drying treatment for 12 hours, and 3) Extraction with water treatment for 24 hours. The results showed that the fruit maturity level and the appropriate extraction treatment to produce optimal langusei seed germination were in the orange-brown and orange-reddish fruit (mature fruits prior to ripening) which was soaked in water for 24 hours.

Abstract

The water utilization in Grojogan Sewu Nature Tourism Park has been used by community around it to fulfill their water needs such as cooking and farming. In the other hand, it is presumed that they have still lack of awareness and appreciation about the conservation object. One of the efforts to increase the community awareness for the water conservation in Grojogan Sewu Nature Tourism Park is to inform the economic value of the water they use every day. This study aims to analyze the economic value of domestic water use and agricultural irrigation that has been carried out by the community around the Grojogan Sewu TWA area. The research method used in this research is quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that the economic value of the use of domestic water and agricultural irrigation by the community around the TWA Grojogan Sewu area was Rp238,565,600,000/month and Rp7,548,750.00/year. This result shows that the economic value of water utilization in TWA Grojogan Sewu is quite high, although the community is not aware of it. This can be illustrated by the value of the community's willingness to pay for the use of water which is still in the fairly low category, which is only Rp7,687,00/month for domestic water use and Rp6,818.00/month for the use of agricultural irrigation.
