Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis sikap mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan bahasa gaul dalam komunikasi sehari-hari serta dampaknya terhadap perkembangan bahasa Indonesia baku. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif melalui penyebaran kuesioner berisi sepuluh pertanyaan via aplikasi WhatsApp. Responden terdiri dari 50 mahasiswa dari berbagai program studi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa bersikap positif terhadap penggunaan bahasa gaul, dengan alasan ekspresivitas, kedekatan sosial, dan tren kekinian. Namun demikian, terdapat pula kekhawatiran terhadap lunturnya kesadaran penggunaan bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar. Penelitian ini memberikan kebaruan dalam mengaitkan fenomena bahasa gaul dengan pengembangan sikap berbahasa dalam konteks pendidikan tinggi serta pentingnya peran pembinaan bahasa dalam ranah akademik. Simpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bahasa gaul telah menjadi bagian dari identitas sosial mahasiswa, tetapi perlu adanya penguatan kesadaran berbahasa yang sesuai dengan konteks komunikasi.

Abstract

This study examines speech events and speech acts in academic interactions between lecturers and students during a thesis proposal seminar. Using a qualitative approach with audio recordings and observation, data were collected from classroom interactions and transcribed for analysis. The analysis employs Hymes’ SPEAKING model and Searle’s speech act theory to explore the structure, intent, and social dynamics of academic communication. Results show that speech events in formal academic settings are characterized by structured sequences, hierarchical roles, and adherence to academic norms. Lecturers predominantly use directive and evaluative speech acts, while students employ assertive and commissive acts to defend their proposals. The study highlights how language functions as a tool for evaluation, argumentation, and knowledge construction within the academic context. Findings emphasize the relationship between social power, communicative purpose, and linguistic choice in educational interactions.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ low skills in writing descriptive texts, caused by difficulties in finding and developing ideas, limited collaborative activities, and the suboptimal use of engaging learning media. This study aims to examine the effect of implementing the Think Talk Write learning model combined with the Pinterest application on students’ ability to write descriptive texts. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design, involving 30 seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Medan selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected through writing tests at the pretest and posttest stages, which were assessed using a scoring rubric. Data analysis was conducted by calculating the mean and standard deviation, as well as through normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing using the t-test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed an increase in the students’ mean score from 45.16 on the pretest to 80.16 on the posttest. The results of the hypothesis test showed that the calculated t value (10.726) was greater than the t table value (1.6972), so the alternative hypothesis was accepted. This study concludes that the implementation of the Think Talk Write learning model assisted by the Pinterest application has a significant effect on improving students’ ability to write descriptive texts. These findings imply the importance of utilizing innovative technology-based learning models to improve students’ writing skills, activeness, and creativity in Indonesian language learning.
