Abstract

Pandemi Covid-19 has a big impact on various aspects of life, including the household economy in Indonesia. In the midst of these conditions, the role of the mother as the family's economic pillar is becoming increasingly prominent. This study discusses the real contribution of mothers in maintaining household economic stability, especially through informal economic activities, micro businesses, and digitalization utilization. This phenomenon shows the presence of an added-worker effect, where housewives are involved in economic activity in response to the decline in family income. Although dominant in the informal sector with minimal protection, mothers show high levels of resilience and creativity in carrying out their dual roles. This study also highlighted the challenges faced, such as social norms that still place women in subordinate positions as well as low recognition of domestic work. Therefore, there is a need for policies that support and protect the role of mothers as important agents in the recovery and development of the national economy.

Abstract

Background: Elderly individuals are at high risk of experiencing degenerative diseases, one of which is gout arthritis, caused by the accumulation of monosodium urate crystals in the joints due to hyperuricemia. Non-pharmacological therapies such as bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum), which contains flavonoids, tannins, and essential oils, are believed to naturally reduce uric acid levels. Objective: To determine the effect of bay leaf decoction on reducing uric acid levels in elderly patients with gout arthritis in Serang Village. Method: This research used a descriptive approach with a case study method. The subject was one elderly person with gout arthritis who was given an intervention in the form of bay leaf decoction twice a day for four days. Results: The uric acid level before the intervention was 8.2 mg/dL and after the intervention was 4.2 mg/dL. The reduction of 4 mg/dL indicates that the bay leaf decoction was effective in lowering uric acid levels. Conclusion: Bay leaf decoction affects the reduction of uric acid levels in elderly patients with gout arthritis and can be used as a safe, easy, and affordable nonpharmacological alternative therapy.

Abstract

Pola konsumsi masyarakat Indonesia menunjukkan kecenderungan peningkatan asupan gula tambahan, termasuk pada kelompok usia mahasiswa yang berada pada fase transisi gaya hidup dan rentan terhadap konsumsi makanan tinggi gula. Kondisi tersebut dapat berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan risiko gangguan metabolik seperti resistensi insulin, obesitas, dan diabetes melitus tipe 2 apabila tidak disertai edukasi mengenai pengendalian gula darah sejak dini. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan sebagai bentuk upaya peningkatan literasi kesehatan mahasiswa dalam menjaga kestabilan gula darah melalui edukasi kesehatan dan pemilihan pangan rendah gula berbasis bahan lokal seperti sorgum. Metode yang diterapkan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif-deskriptif melalui pemberian pre-test sebagai pemetaan pengetahuan awal, penyuluhan interaktif mengenai mekanisme metabolisme gula darah, bahaya konsumsi gula berlebih, manfaat serat pangan, serta strategi memilih camilan rendah gula, kemudian diikuti post-test sebagai evaluasi efektivitas edukasi. Selain itu, dilakukan pengenalan produk inovasi Cookies Sorgum Rendah Gula sebagai contoh pangan lokal sehat yang dapat diaplikasikan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari mahasiswa. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan skor pengetahuan dan sikap mahasiswa terkait pengendalian gula darah serta meningkatnya minat terhadap konsumsi camilan rendah gula. Mahasiswa juga menunjukkan respons positif terhadap produk berbasis sorgum, yang mengindikasikan adanya penerimaan nyata terhadap alternatif pangan sehat berbahan lokal. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan edukasi ini terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi kesehatan mahasiswa dan memberikan dampak terhadap pembentukan sikap konsumsi sehat. Melalui intervensi ini diharapkan tercipta pola konsumsi yang lebih sadar gizi serta peningkatan pemanfaatan pangan lokal sebagai upaya preventif terhadap risiko penyakit metabolik di masa mendatang.
