Abstract

This study is based on the role of Islamic religious instructors in marriage guidance for prospective brides and grooms at the Jekan Raya Religious Affairs Office. The role of religious instructors has a strategic position to equip couples in building a household that is sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah. In its implementation, instructors have an important role as inspirators, motivators, catalysts, stabilizers, facilitators, and government employees. This study aims to determine the role of Islamic religious instructors in marriage guidance for prospective brides and grooms at the Jekan Raya Religious Affairs Office, as well as to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in carrying out this role. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that religious instructors have carried out their roles in accordance with their duties and functions, namely providing guidance that includes religious, psychological, and social aspects. However, there are several inhibiting factors such as time constraints and lack of understanding of participants, as well as supporting factors such as the instructor's scientific background and communication skills, and empathy. The conclusion of this study is that the role of Islamic religious instructors is very important in the success of the marriage guidance program, but the effectiveness of its implementation is greatly influenced by supporting and inhibiting factors in the field.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of organizational communication in improving faculty branding through social media. Social media is now an important tool for faculty to build an image and introduce themselves to students, prospective students, and the wider community. Effective communication through social media allows faculty to convey information quickly, engagingly, and interactively. Consistent, creative, and relevant content can increase the audience's awareness and trust in the quality and excellence of the faculty. In addition, social media also facilitates the establishment of closer relationships between faculty and audiences through direct interaction. A planned and adaptive communication strategy is essential in utilizing social media as a means of strengthening faculty branding. Social media is not only a promotional tool, but also an effective medium to build the reputation and competitiveness of the faculty in the midst of increasingly fierce competition in the world of education. The emphasis on content management and interaction on social media has been proven to be effective in the branding process, as well as found in various studies on digital branding and the role of social media in building an organization's image.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze forms of social pathology in Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Employing a qualitative content analysis approach, the research examines how historical violence and trauma, abuse of power, and existential alienation are represented through the novel’s narrative structure, characters, and symbolic elements. The findings indicate that these three categories are interconnected, forming a systemic pattern of social dysfunction rooted in institutional failure, historical memory, and individual psychological pressure. The depiction of war highlights collective trauma, while both physical and symbolic forms of domination illustrate distorted power relations. Furthermore, the motif of alienation reflects the psychological consequences of social instability and disrupted interpersonal bonds. The study aligns with previous research on trauma and deviance in Murakami’s works and strengthens the view of literature as a critical medium for reflecting modern social conditions.

Abstract

This community-service study examines the role of psychosocial counseling in supporting the psychological and social recovery of women involved in commercial sex work (CSW) linked to human trafficking in Indonesia. Using a participatory and trauma-informed design, trained counselors implemented a needs-based program integrating individual trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, brief psychosocial stabilization, coping-skills training, and rights-literacy awareness, accompanied by referrals to legal, health, and social-protection services. Participants were identified through partner coordination and screened for psychosocial needs, while outcomes were monitored through session notes, pre–post brief instruments, satisfaction evaluations, and follow-up activities. A case subject, a widowed single mother who entered CSW due to post-divorce economic pressure and limited social support, illustrates the structural drivers of vulnerability, including poverty, social isolation, and informal recruitment, as well as multilayered harms such as shame, guilt, anxiety, emotional suppression, and somatic complaints. The findings indicate that counseling fostered empathetic therapeutic relationships, emotional validation, psychoeducation, and practical coping techniques, resulting in reduced emotional suppression, greater openness, improved coping capacity, emerging hope, and initial planning toward safer livelihoods. However, the findings also show that trauma-informed psychosocial counseling, while contributing meaningful short-term psychosocial gains, is insufficient as a standalone intervention. Durable recovery requires integrated responses that address structural determinants, including economic alternatives, confidential welfare access, and coordinated multi-sector referrals. This study contributes to victim recovery and community-based psychosocial intervention literature by highlighting the importance of embedding counseling within gender-sensitive, trauma-oriented service models. Larger-sample evaluations using standardized measures and longer follow-up are needed to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of combined psychosocial and structural interventions.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in intervention management for female commercial sex workers (CSWs), with emphasis on cognitive mechanisms, behavioral change processes, and integration with socioeconomic support. The study focused on AR, a 30-year-old CSW in Palangka Raya who participated in CBT-based counseling involving cognitive restructuring, behavioral experiments, emotion-regulation training, and basic vocational-skills tasks. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant and non-participant observation, and counseling documentation, then analyzed thematically using data triangulation and reflexivity to strengthen credibility. The findings indicate that addressing core maladaptive beliefs reduced shame, hopelessness, and nihilistic schemas, while behavioral tasks, including job interview simulations, resume building, and graded social exposure, provided experiential evidence of alternative livelihoods and increased self-efficacy. Emotion-management techniques also improved impulse control and reduced reactive decision-making associated with economic stress. However, dysfunctional family contexts, stigma, and economic pressures limited the sustainability of intervention outcomes. The results further show that CBT outcomes improved when combined with family psychoeducation, social support linkages, and referrals to vocational and economic-assistance services. The study concludes that modular CBT integrating cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, life-skills development, and socioeconomic support offers a promising intervention model for CSW populations, although the single-case design limits generalizability and causal inference. This study contributes to counseling and social intervention literature by providing process-based insights into how CBT may support psychological, behavioral, and socioeconomic change among vulnerable women, while highlighting the need for larger, controlled, culturally adapted studies with long-term monitoring.

Abstract

Domestic violence remains a persistent problem in Indonesia, producing long-term physical, psychological, social, and spiritual harm for victims, families, and communities. Although Islamic counseling has been proposed as a rehabilitative and preventive approach, field-based evidence on its application to domestic violence perpetrators remains limited. This study aims to explore how Islamic counseling rehabilitates domestic violence perpetrators and strengthens family resilience. Using a qualitative case study design, the research examined two perpetrator cases through in-depth interviews with counselors and mentors, direct observation of counseling sessions and community activities, and analysis of program documentation. The data were analyzed descriptively through data reduction, narrative presentation, and thematic synthesis. The findings indicate that perpetrators’ violent behavior was associated with poor emotion regulation, maladaptive learned responses, early or forced marital transitions, patriarchal norms, and limited communication skills. The counseling process integrated behavioral methods, including modeling, reinforcement, emotion-regulation training, social-skills training, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, with Islamic spiritual practices such as muhasabah, istighfar, and dhikr to foster self-awareness, cognitive restructuring, repentance, and intrinsic motivation for behavioral change. The intervention also involved family mentoring, community support groups, and religious leaders, enabling perpetrators to practice new relational skills while supporting normative shifts against violence. Critical program components included a modular medium- to long-term design, measurable targets, follow-up monitoring, counselor competence in clinical–religious integration, and victim-safety safeguards. Participants, including child witnesses, reported improved emotional stability, renewed religious engagement, and observable reductions in aggressive behavior; however, the findings are limited by the small sample size and local context. The study concludes that the systematic integration of behavioral and cognitive behavioral techniques with Islamic spiritual frameworks offers a promising approach for rehabilitating domestic violence perpetrators and rebuilding family resilience in Indonesian settings. This study contributes to Islamic counseling, family resilience, and domestic violence intervention literature by providing field-based insights into a culturally and religiously grounded perpetrator rehabilitation model, while larger-scale controlled studies are needed to test generalizability and refine intervention modules.

Abstract

Begging remains a complex social issue that continues to challenge public order, social welfare, and human dignity. This problem is closely associated with poverty, limited access to education, and the influence of individuals’ social environments. This study aims to describe the characteristics of begging behavior, identify its triggering factors, analyze its impacts, and propose intervention strategies through an Islamic Guidance and Counseling approach integrated with behavior modification techniques. A qualitative descriptive-analytical method was employed to examine the internal and external dimensions of begging behavior. The findings indicate that begging arises from the interaction between individual internal conditions and external social influences. Internal factors include irrational thinking, dependency tendencies, and limited understanding of religious values, whereas external factors include structural poverty, limited employment opportunities, and a cultural environment that allows or supports begging practices. The phenomenon negatively affects public order, reduces environmental comfort, and reinforces long-term dependence on assistance from others. The study concludes that comprehensive intervention should involve strengthening religious awareness, correcting erroneous thought patterns, developing positive habits, and reinforcing spiritual values. These findings contribute to the study of social pathology and Islamic counseling by demonstrating that an integrated Islamic Guidance and Counseling and behavior modification approach can help individuals develop independence, work motivation, self-worth, and human dignity, thereby reducing dependence on begging.

Abstract

Although school bullying has received considerable scholarly attention, understanding of the psychological processes underlying bullying perpetration among high school students remains limited. This study aims to explore the psychology of bullying perpetrators by examining why students engage in aggressive behavior toward their peers. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through triangulation involving in-depth interviews, participant and non-participant observation, and documentation studies, including school records and incident reports. Informants were selected purposively based on their involvement in bullying incidents and demographic variation. Data were analyzed inductively using thematic analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, member checking, and audit trails. The findings indicate that bullying behavior develops through habituation in social interactions, in which actions initially perceived as humorous or as attempts to gain peer approval are repeatedly reinforced by laughter, encouragement, and imitation. Key motivating factors include the need for recognition and dominance, emotional instability, low impulse control, past experiences of abusive treatment or authoritarian parenting, and unstable friendship patterns. However, some perpetrators developed moral awareness after recognizing the psychological impact of their actions on victims, indicating the potential for empathetic and rehabilitative interventions. These findings suggest that bullying is not merely the result of individual intention but emerges from complex interactions between internal factors, such as emotion and affective regulation, and external factors, including peer, family, and school environments. This study contributes to bullying prevention literature by highlighting the psychological and social mechanisms underlying perpetrator behavior and provides practical implications for integrated interventions, including social-emotional skills education, proactive school policies, parenting programs, and restorative approaches to support the recovery of both perpetrators and victims.

Abstract

Child abuse in Indonesia produces long-term physical, psychological, and social consequences that may manifest in deviant and aggressive behavior. Although culturally appropriate spiritual care integrated with evidence-based psychotherapy has potential to support recovery, qualitative evidence on such integrated approaches remains limited. This phenomenological study, conducted in Palangka Raya from December 2025 to February 2026, explored how Islamic Counseling Guidance combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) addressed deviant behavior in a 17-year-old male victim of family violence and identified factors that facilitated or hindered behavioral change. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews with the subject, caregivers, and counselors, as well as participant and non-participant observations of counseling sessions and daily interactions. Data were analyzed thematically using a phenomenological approach. The intervention integrated spiritual practices and values with CBT techniques, including cognitive restructuring, emotion regulation skills, and behavioral training. During the intervention, the subject demonstrated improved emotion regulation, reduced frequency and intensity of aggressive behavior, clearer emotional expression, and better family communication. Spiritual engagement increased moderately and served as an internal motivator supporting cognitive and behavioral change. Supporting factors included openness, intrinsic motivation, and access to spiritual support, whereas barriers included dysfunctional family dynamics, normalization of violence, economic stress, and the influence of pro-aggressive peers. Temporary relocation to independent living facilities facilitated stabilization. The study concludes that integrated Islamic Counseling Guidance and CBT is feasible and acceptable in the local context, with potential to reduce deviant behavior and strengthen psychosocial and spiritual resources among victims of family violence. However, the sustainability of change remains constrained by family and environmental factors, highlighting the need for multi-level interventions and further empirical research.
