Abstract

Hypertension is a condition in which there is an abnormal increase in blood pressure with systolic and diastolic numbers showing higher than 140/90 mmHg (Indah, 2023). Increased blood pressure can cause various kinds of damage to body systems such as the kidneys, heart, and brain when left in prolonged conditions. Hypertension often does not cause symptoms, so this condition is often referred to as a "silent killer" (WHO, 2013). The purpose of this Community Service activity is to increase the knowledge of the elderly, so that they can prevent hypertension and maintain health. The PKM implementation method uses a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach, which involves the elderly and the local community actively in planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs. The results of this activity show that the health promotion approach based on local wisdom has succeeded in increasing the knowledge of the elderly about hypertension. This improvement is achieved through the integration of local cultural values in educational materials, which makes the program more relevant and interesting for participants.
