Abstract

Abstract

Abstract Ogan Ilir Regency is included in the development program as a buffer zone for Palembang City, which is part of the Sriwijaya Megaregion, due to its distance of approximately 35 km. Ogan Ilir Regency has established a Spatial Planning (RTRW) Plan for 2023–2024. This RTRW serves as the basis for policy direction and the development of urban areas. Therefore, research on spatial analysis is necessary to evaluate existing development. This study uses descriptive analysis with a spatial approach, namely a Geographic Information System (GIS). The software used is QGIS, which is open-source. The data sources include Sentinel satellite imagery and the Spatial Planning Map of Ogan Ilir Regency. The analysis applies supervised classification to identify existing land use. The results show that 11,461.4 hectares of land use are not in accordance with the Ogan Ilir RTRW. The largest area of inconsistency is found in North Indralaya District, which is planned as an urban area but is still predominantly used for oil palm agricultural land.

Abstract

Coal is an important energy source, but its utilization must consider quality and environmental aspects for sustainability. This study aims to characterize coal from Muara Enim Regency and to evaluate its energy utilization potential. A 2.365 kg coal sample was analyzed at Geoservice laboratory, Bandung. Proximate analysis results showed total moisture 6.26%, ash content 10.63%, volatile matter 37.84%, and fixed carbon 47.71%. Ultimate analysis revealed carbon 68.56%, hydrogen 5.12%, nitrogen 1.42%, oxygen 13.71%, and sulfur 0.56%. The calorific value is 6,900 kcal/kg with fuel ratio 1.26. These parameters classify the coal as Sub-bituminous B with good combustion characteristics. Stoichiometric calculations determined theoretical air requirements of 2.24 kg/kg coal, producing 2.51 kg CO₂, 0.46 kg H₂O, 0.0009333 kg NO2 and 0.0112 kg SO₂. Theoretical SO₂ emissions (1.557 mg/Nm³) exceed Indonesian regulations, requiring Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) installation. The coal has good energy potential with low sulfur content, suitable for power generation with proper emission control technology. This study provides a database for optimizing energy systems and clean coal technologies..Keywords: coal characterization; calorific value; combustion stoichiometry; clean coal technology, coal chemistry

Abstract

The oil and gas sector is one of the main pillars of the national economy and is currently facing the challenge of declining production, making the enhancement of human resource (HR) quality in the upstream oil and gas industry a strategic necessity. The core problem lies in the absence of optimal synergy between the oil and gas industry and the education sector, as reflected in the mismatch between higher education graduates’ competencies and industry needs, including in the South Sumatra Region (Sumatera Bagian Selatan, Sumbagsel), which comprises South Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Bangka Belitung Provinces. This study aims to describe the establishment and role of Migas Center UNSRI as a form of community service in improving oil and gas HR competencies in the Sumbagsel region through collaboration between Universitas Sriwijaya and SKK Migas Sumbagsel. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed to examine the implementation of community empowerment policies and the mapping of upstream oil and gas industry needs at the regional level. The findings show that the collaboration between Universitas Sriwijaya and SKK Migas Sumbagsel resulted in an agreement to establish Migas Center UNSRI as a center for research and training in oil and gas management in South Sumatra. The existence of Migas Center provides the education sector with a clearer picture of industry requirements, including the importance of establishing study centers and certification bodies located in Sumbagsel so that companies do not have to rely on facilities in Java. Conceptually, Migas Center UNSRI is positioned as the forerunner of the establishment of a Petroleum Engineering Department at Universitas Sriwijaya as well as an instrument for strengthening the capacity of local human resources in the oil and gas sector.
