Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Discovery Learning model integrated with the Child Friendly School approach on the scientific literacy skills of fourth-grade students at SDN 198 Inpres Bontorita, Takalar Regency. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The population consisted of all fourth-grade students in Cluster I of North Galesong District, totaling 216 students from 10 elementary schools. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, comprising 20 students from SDN 198 Inpres Bontorita as the experimental group and 20 students from SD Negeri No. 89 Pakkabba as the control group. Data were collected through scientific literacy tests, student response questionnaires, and observation sheets, and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including normality tests, homogeneity tests, and the Independent Samples t-test with IBM SPSS Statistics version 29. The findings revealed that the mean scientific literacy score of the experimental group increased from 63.5 to 86.0, while the control group improved from 53.0 to 62.5. The hypothesis testing showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.010 (<0.05), indicating that H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. Student activity reached 85% (good category), teacher activity achieved 100% (very active category), and student responses reached 94% (very good category). Therefore, the Discovery Learning model integrated with the Child Friendly School approach had a positive and significant effect on improving the scientific literacy skills of fourth-grade students at SDN 198 Inpres Bontorita, Takalar Regency
