Abstract

Learning outcomes in the ecosystem topic for fifth-grade students at St. Yoseph 1 Catholic Elementary School remain relatively low because classroom instruction is still dominated by teacher-centered methods, resulting in limited student participation and conceptual understanding. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Mind Mapping learning method on students' learning outcomes in the ecosystem topic. The research employed a quantitative approach using a Pre-Experimental method with a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The participants consisted of 23 fifth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using tests, observation, and documentation. The research instrument was validated and tested for reliability before implementation. Data analysis included the normality test and the Paired Sample t-test using SPSS version 25. The findings revealed that the mean pretest score was 49.35, while the mean posttest score increased to 86.30, indicating an average improvement of 36.95 points. The hypothesis testing produced a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which was lower than 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. These findings indicate that the Mind Mapping learning method has a significant positive effect on students' learning outcomes in the ecosystem topic. Consequently, Mind Mapping can serve as an effective and innovative instructional method to improve elementary school students' understanding and learning achievement in Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS).
