Abstract

This research aims to investigate the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and its impact on the critical thinking abilities of fourth-grade students. A mixed-method design was employed, utilizing a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest format. Data were gathered through interviews, observations, questionnaires, documentation, and critical thinking assessments. Data analysis followed a Sequential Exploratory strategy, beginning with the collection of qualitative data and subsequently proceeding to quantitative analysis. The implementation of PBL was conducted in six structured sessions, which included icebreakers, group discussions, text analysis, sentence construction, story writing, and presentations. Results showed that PBL enhanced students' participation, motivation, self-confidence, and critical thinking skills, particularly in identifying problems, analyzing information, drawing logical conclusions, evaluating solutions, and communicating ideas. Quantitatively, the average pre-test score of 61.87 increased to 71.13 in the post-test, with a significant difference (t = -6.038; p < 0.05). Therefore, PBL positively influenced learning outcomes and fostered critical, creative, communicative, and collaborative competencies in language learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kebijakan pendidikan, proses implementasi, serta dampaknya terhadap partisipasi kewarganegaraan siswa di Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 Lamongan dalam perspektif civic engagement dan konsep amar ma’ruf nahi munkar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus dan model evaluatif CIPP. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis secara interaktif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada aspek kebijakan, madrasah telah memiliki kebijakan normatif berbasis visi–misi yang mendukung civic engagement, namun masih bersifat implisit dan belum terstruktur secara operasional, sehingga berada pada tahap amar ma’ruf bil qalb (kesadaran nilai). Pada aspek proses implementasi, pembelajaran telah mengarah pada pendekatan dialogis dan kontekstual melalui diskusi isu sosial, yang menempatkan siswa pada kategori participatory citizen. Tahap ini sejalan dengan amar ma’ruf bil lisan, yaitu partisipasi melalui kesadaran kritis dan kemampuan berargumentasi. Namun, pelaksanaannya belum merata, masih dominan teoretis, serta minim pengalaman nyata dan kolaborasi eksternal. Pada aspek implementasi dan dampak, berbagai praktik telah meningkatkan pemahaman dan kesadaran siswa. Namun, keterlibatan dalam tindakan nyata masih rendah dan bersifat insidental, sehingga belum mencapai justice-oriented citizen dan dalam konsep amar ma’ruf nahi munkar belum sampai pada tahap bil yad. Dengan demikian, implementasi civic engagement masih parsial dan belum membentuk partisipasi kewarganegaraan yang aktif dan berkelanjutan.
