Abstract

The reasoning is one of the many skills that must be mastered by students when working on math problems. One type of reasoning in mathematics is creative reasoning. Creative reasoning is classified into Local Creative Reasoning (LCR) and Global Creative Reasoning (GCR). The reasoning is called Local Creative Reasoning (LCR) if, in the problem-solving process, the steps are still memorizing or imitating, and only a small part uses creative reasoning. Meanwhile, the reasoning is called the Global Creative Reasoning (GCR) type if the problem-solving is not based on an algorithm and, as a whole, requires creative reasoning. This research aims to identify the types of creative reasoning of Islamic elementary school students in solving geometrical problems. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade students of MI Nurul Ulum Moropelang, consisting of 2 students with high mathematical abilities, 2 students with moderate mathematical abilities, and 2 students with low mathematical abilities. Data was collected through tests of mathematical ability, creative reasoning tests and interviews. The results showed that students who had high mathematical abilities were currently using Local Creative Reasoning (LCR) type creative reasoning. In contrast, those with low mathematical abilities did not use both types of creative reasoning in solving geometrical problems.

Abstract

The ability to think analytically is a student's skill when describing a problem so that several parts of the problem are formed and also determining relationships based on ongoing problems. Different cognitive styles in obtaining results both visually and verbally will form two groups, namely the visualizer cognitive style and the verbalizer cognitive style. Researchers use the visualizer and verbalizer cognitive styles in order to find out students' analytical thinking abilities when determining problems in an image or word. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The topics used were 3 students who had a visualizer cognitive style and 3 students who had a verbalizer cognitive style for class V MI Maarif Buduran. The results obtained are students' analytical thinking skills who have a visualizer cognitive style in the indicator category when understanding problems, planning solutions, carrying out solutions, and re-examining the results of solutions. Meanwhile, visualizer students are classified as sufficient indicators to explain the relationship between the strategy used and the problem that must be solved. Students who have a visualizer cognitive style tend to use images to solve mathematical problems. For students, the cognitive verbalization style is classified as good in all indicators of the level of understanding the problem, planning a solution, carrying out the solution, and reviewing the results of the solution, except for the part that summarizes the problem and conclusions.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and its impact on the critical thinking abilities of fourth-grade students. A mixed-method design was employed, utilizing a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest format. Data were gathered through interviews, observations, questionnaires, documentation, and critical thinking assessments. Data analysis followed a Sequential Exploratory strategy, beginning with the collection of qualitative data and subsequently proceeding to quantitative analysis. The implementation of PBL was conducted in six structured sessions, which included icebreakers, group discussions, text analysis, sentence construction, story writing, and presentations. Results showed that PBL enhanced students' participation, motivation, self-confidence, and critical thinking skills, particularly in identifying problems, analyzing information, drawing logical conclusions, evaluating solutions, and communicating ideas. Quantitatively, the average pre-test score of 61.87 increased to 71.13 in the post-test, with a significant difference (t = -6.038; p < 0.05). Therefore, PBL positively influenced learning outcomes and fostered critical, creative, communicative, and collaborative competencies in language learning.
