Abstract

Background: Disaster Prone Area III (Red) is an area that is often hit by hot clouds, lava flows, volcanic bomb throws, poisonous gas or falling rocks (incandescence). Every time a disaster occurs, children are the most vulnerable group and become the victims who suffer the most compared to adults. Disaster-related knowledge is the target of disaster risk reduction programs. Preparedness is a new paradigm in disaster management that has changed from response to disaster risk reduction. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge and preparedness in facing the Mount Merapi eruption disaster among students at SD N 2 Jrakah Method: This research is an analytical observational study using a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were students in grades 4 and 5 of SD N 2 Jrakah. Sampling used total sampling by taking samples from 41 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire. Data were processed using the SPSS program to analyze (testing univariate analysis in the form of frequency distribution and bivariate analysis with the Kendall Tau C test) univariate and bivariate analysis using frequency distribution and the Kendall Tau C test. Results: Knowledge about disasters is related to preparedness in facing the eruption of Mount Merapi p=0.006; r=0.342. Conclusion: Knowledge about disasters is related to preparedness in facing the eruption of Mount Merapi with a weak correlation.
