Abstract

This comparative study analyzes the narrative and spiritual themes in two foundational works of Islamic literary tradition: A Pilgrimage to Mecca (a rihla or travelogue) by the 12th-century Andalusian scholar Ibn Jubayr, and Star-Crossed Lovers or Layla and Majnun (a masnavi or epic poem) by the Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi. Despite originating from different genres, languages, and purposes, one being a factual travel account and the other being an allegorical romance. Both masterpieces convergently explore the transformative journey of the human soul. Ibn Jubayr's work presents the physical Hajj as a profound spiritual pilgrimage. Through meticulous empirical observation of sacred sites and Muslim communities, his narrative transcends mere reportage to become a reflection on divine order, personal piety, and the unity of the Ummah. Conversely, Nizami's tragic tale of the "Star-Crossed Lovers" uses the framework of unrequited worldly love as a powerful Sufi metaphor. Majnun's madness and his longing for Layla symbolize the soul's total and self-annihilating (fana) quest for union with the Divine. By analyzing the narrative structures, thematic parallels, stylistic devices, and socio-historical contexts of both texts drawing upon analyses by Netton (1996) and Chelkowski (1975). This research aims to demonstrate how the journey narrative, whether literal or metaphorical, functions as a primary vehicle for spiritual articulation. Ultimately, this comparison highlights the diversity and depth of spiritual expression in the classical Islamic world, where the path to God could be mapped through both a real journey in the world and through the inner landscape of the human heart.

Abstract

Kekerasan Dalam Rumah Tangga (KDRT) merupakan masalah sosial kompleks yang berakar pada ketimpangan relasi gender yang tertanam sejak dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran strategis pendidikan gender di sekolah sebagai upaya preventif terhadap KDRT, serta menganalisis tantangan dan model implementasinya. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kepustakaan, penelitian ini menelaah literatur relevan untuk membangun argumen tentang urgensi pendidikan gender di lingkungan sekolah. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa tantangan utama terletak pada rendahnya pemahaman konsep gender di kalangan pelajar, yang diperparah oleh materi ajar dan lingkungan pendidikan yang masih bias gender sehingga melanggengkan stereotip. Sebagai solusi, penelitian ini mengusulkan pendekatan yang tidak hanya menciptakan mata pelajaran baru, melainkan mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai kesetaraan gender ke dalam kurikulum yang sudah ada, seperti PPKn, Sejarah, dan Bahasa Indonesia. Keberhasilan strategi ini harus didukung oleh tiga pilar utama: (1) inovasi bahan ajar yang bebas dari stereotip, (2) peningkatan kapasitas guru sebagai agen perubahan yang sadar gender, dan (3) penciptaan budaya sekolah yang inklusif dengan kebijakan nol toleransi terhadap kekerasan. Implementasi ini diharapkan dapat membentuk generasi yang menghargai kesetaraan, menolak kekerasan, dan mampu secara aktif mencegah KDRT dalam kehidupan mereka kelak.

Abstract

Music is one of the effective media for conveying Islamic values, including the concept of tawakal (trust in Allah). Through song lyrics, religious messages can be delivered to listeners in language that is easy to understand while conveying profound meaning. This study aims to analyze the representation of tawakal in the lyrics of Insha Allah by Maher Zain using a semantic approach based on Al-Ghazali’s perspective. This study employed a qualitative approach using the qualitative content analysis method. The research data consisted of selected song lyric excerpts, which were analyzed based on their lexical and contextual meanings and subsequently classified into the three aspects of tawakal according to Al-Ghazali, namely knowledge ('ilm), spiritual state (hal), and action (amal). The findings indicate that the lyrics of Insha Allah represent tawakal through faith in Allah, the transformation of one's inner state from despair to hope, and the act of returning to Allah through prayer and complete surrender. These findings demonstrate that the song functions not only as a form of entertainment but also as a medium for conveying Islamic spiritual values while enriching semantic studies on Islamic song lyrics.
