Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of love language in communication between parents and children of generation Z for self-disclosure. The love language proposed by Chapman (2014) includes five main forms: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with six informants consisting of parents and children of generation Z. The results of the study showed that love language plays an important role in creating comfort, trust, and openness between parents and children. Self-disclosure occurs because of the comfort and trust that arise from smooth communication through love language. However, differences in understanding between parents and children can hinder the process of self-disclosure. This study recommends the importance of parents' understanding of their children's love language in order to strengthen family relationships.
