Abstract

This study seeks to conceptually examine the role of money in fostering economic growth from two different perspectives: conventional economics and Islamic economics. Money functions as a core element within the economic system, serving not only as a medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value but also as a central driver of economic activity. In conventional economics, the role of money is closely linked to monetary policy, interest rate mechanisms, and market dynamics that influence investment, consumption, and inflation. Maintaining monetary stability is viewed as a key factor in achieving macroeconomic equilibrium and supporting national growth. Conversely, Islamic economics perceives money not as a tradable commodity for profit but as a trust (amanah) that should be directed toward productive and just economic activities. The Islamic system prohibits usury (riba), speculation (gharar), and uncertainty, while emphasizing the integration of the monetary and real sectors. In this framework, money serves as a means of equitable wealth distribution through mechanisms such as profit-sharing, zakat, waqf, and other Islamic financial instruments designed to promote social justice and economic fairness. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach using the library research method. Data were drawn from academic sources, including economic textbooks, peer-reviewed journals, and official reports issued by financial institutions. The findings suggest that sustainable economic growth can only be achieved through a balanced relationship between market efficiency and social justice. Integrating the rational principles of conventional economics with the ethical and moral foundations of Islamic economics can contribute to the creation of a more inclusive, stable, and sustainable economic system. Ultimately, this study is expected to enrich theoretical discourse in the field of monetary economics and enhance understanding of the role of money in developing a fair and equitable economy. Moreover, it serves as a valuable reference for formulating Islamic monetary policies aligned with national development goals and the principles of maqashid al-shariah

Abstract

The halal industry is one of the economic sectors experiencing rapid growth in Indonesia, particularly in the food and beverage sector. Street vendors, as micro-enterprises, play a crucial role in providing food for the community and supporting the local economy. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the halal industry among street vendors, determine the level of understanding of halal certification among business actors, and identify challenges and strategies for developing the halal industry in the street food sector. This qualitative study employed a literature review and field research approach. Data were obtained through documentation, interviews, observations, and literature review of scientific journals, articles, halal regulations, and government publications. The study shows that some street vendors have implemented the halal concept by using halal raw materials and maintaining a clean food production process. However, due to financial constraints, a lack of understanding of halal certification procedures, and a lack of knowledge about halal certification among micro-enterprises, many remain halal-certified. Furthermore, street vendors face several challenges, including a lack of halal awareness and competition from modern food businesses. Therefore, a development plan is needed that includes halal education and mentoring, a free halal certification program, digitalization of halal business promotion, and strengthened food product supervision. This will allow the implementation of the halal industry among street vendors to develop optimally and increase customer trust in food products.

Abstract

Sharia cooperatives, one of the sharia-based financial institutions, play a vital role in supporting the community's economy, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The purpose of this study is to examine the development of sharia cooperatives in Indonesia, their role in improving community welfare, and to identify challenges and plans for their development in the current era. This is a qualitative study using a literature review method. The data used in this study comes from various sources, including books, scientific journals, scientific articles, government regulations, and official publications related to sharia cooperatives. The results show that sharia cooperatives have experienced a significant increase in the number, assets, and public interest in sharia financial services. Sharia cooperatives also help finance MSMEs, improve member welfare, and boost the sharia economy throughout the country. However, sharia cooperatives still face many challenges, such as a lack of knowledge about sharia finance, limited capital, the quality of human resources, and competition from fintech and digital finance companies. To ensure sustainable growth, a development plan is needed that strengthens regulations, digitizes cooperative services, improves human resource quality, and provides the public with knowledge about Islamic finance.
