Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum in developing intercultural communication (ICC) competencies among students of English language education. This area currently lacks empirical evidence in the Indonesian higher education context. Using a mixed-methods design with a sequential explanatory model, quantitative data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire based on Kirkpatrick’s four-level evaluation model and Byram’s ICC framework, and further expanded upon through semi-structured interviews. The study involved 82 questionnaire respondents and five interview participants, selected using purposive sampling to capture the diverse experiences of students who had participated in MBKM for at least one semester. Findings indicate that 82.9% of students found the learning methods easy to understand, and 67% rated the material as relevant to their academic needs, reflecting positive outcomes at Kirkpatrick’s Levels 1 through 4. Students also reported increased cultural awareness and opportunities for authentic interactions, aligning with the five ICC dimensions in Byram’s model. However, challenges persist, including gaps in interdisciplinary understanding, heavy workloads, and inconsistent support from lecturers. These results suggest that MBKM has the potential to be a transformative platform for developing linguistic, cultural, and collaborative skills, provided that curriculum coordination and pedagogical reinforcement for lecturers are systematically implemented. Practical implications include structured study load management, standardized feedback mechanisms, and intercultural pedagogy training for lecturers. Limitations include its single-semester scope, limited participant diversity, and reliance on self-reported data, highlighting the need for multi-institutional longitudinal research that combines perception-based and performance-based measures.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of local government in responding to the influence of inflation and interest rates on gold prices at the Pegadaian Sungguminasa Branch, Gowa Regency. The data used in this research were obtained from the period 2021 to 2023. The study employs a descriptive quantitative method with a case study approach at Pegadaian Sungguminasa Branch. Data were collected through documentation and interviews with relevant parties, including local government officials and Pegadaian management. The results show that fluctuations in inflation and interest rates have a significant effect on changes in gold prices. The local government plays an important role in maintaining economic stability through inflation control policies, improving financial literacy among the community, and collaborating with financial institutions such as Pegadaian to provide safe and productive investment access for the public. This research is expected to serve as a reference for local governments in formulating adaptive economic policies in response to macroeconomic dynamics, particularly those related to gold prices.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat kali ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan staf dan guru TK Sarah Shabrina dalam mengelola website sekolah secara mandiri menggunakan WordPress. Pelatihan difokuskan pada tiga aspek utama yaitu pengenalan antarmuka dan fitur dasar WordPress sebagai Content Management System (CMS), penerapan keamanan website menggunakan plugin seperti Wordfence dan reCAPTCHA, dan teknik backup dan restore menggunakan plugin UpdraftPlus. Metode pelatihan menggabungkan teori dengan praktik langsung, termasuk simulasi pembaruan konten, konfigurasi keamanan, dan pemulihan data. Peserta pelatihan diharapkan mampu mengoperasikan dashboard WordPress secara mandiri dan menerapkan langkah keamanan dasar. Kendala utama terletak pada keterbatasan pemahaman teknis awal peserta, yang diatasi melalui pendampingan intensif dan modul panduan visual. Umpan balik peserta menyoroti kejelasan materi dan relevansi pelatihan dengan kebutuhan sekolah. Potensi keberlanjutan kegiatan ini, dapat diduplikasi untuk lembaga pendidikan lain dengan permasalahan serupa, yaitu lembaga Pendidikan yang sudah memiliki website sendiri namun masih minim pengetahuan terhadap keamanan dasar pada website dan bagaimana tidakan mitigasi awal jika terjadi kerusakan pada website dengan CMS yang serupa.
