Abstract

Social media has transformed public interaction between governments and citizens, making it a vital tool for digital participation in policymaking. However, it has also enabled the spread of misinformation, especially regarding government initiatives like Indonesia's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, which faced false claims about food safety and cancellations. This study explores how government institutions use social media to enhance public engagement in combating such misinformation. Through a qualitative approach, the research examines existing literature on government social media use and digital participation strategies, focusing on the MBG hoax case. The findings show that while government social media is effective for information dissemination, it lacks deeper public interaction. The study emphasizes the need for more transparent communication, timely responses, and participatory content creation. It concludes with recommendations to improve institutional coordination, citizen engagement, and media literacy efforts to better counter misinformation.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital media has transformed information dissemination in Indonesia, but it also fuels the spread of hoaxes, hate speech, and divisive content, threatening national resilience. This study aims to analyze how information media management can be optimized to strengthen national unity and security. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, the research examines government reports, academic studies, and news articles to explore challenges and strategies in managing digital media. The findings reveal that hoaxes and hate speech, particularly on social media, erode public trust and deepen social polarization, with significant cases during the coronavirus disease pandemic. Government efforts, including cyber patrols and public education, are hindered by weak coordination among institutions and low media literacy among citizens. Digital infrastructure, such as media centers and online reporting platforms, shows potential but faces limitations due to budget constraints and lack of expertise. Strengthening media management requires improved institutional coordination, enhanced digital tools, and widespread media literacy programs. This study concludes that a comprehensive approach combining technology, regulation, and public engagement is essential to counter disinformation and foster a resilient society capable of maintaining national values and unity in the digital era.

Abstract

Political polarization and the rise of identity politics have become major challenges in contemporary Indonesian democracy, particularly in the era of digital media and open political participation. The extensive use of religious, ethnic, and social identities in political communication has contributed to social fragmentation and weakened democratic deliberation. This study aims to analyze the role of political communication in addressing polarization and identity politics in Indonesia. The research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method. Data were collected from peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, and research reports related to political communication, polarization, identity politics, and Indonesian democracy. The collected literature was analyzed thematically to identify key patterns, strategies, and actors involved in political communication practices. The findings indicate that political communication plays a dual role: it can intensify polarization when dominated by confrontational and identity-based narratives, but it can also reduce social division when practiced in an inclusive, dialogical, and constructive manner. Inclusive political communication that emphasizes shared values, democratic norms, and public interests is found to be effective in mitigating polarization and strengthening social cohesion. The study concludes that ethical and responsible political communication is essential for consolidating democracy in Indonesia.
