Abstract

Batu City, as a major tourist destination, has experienced rapid growth in tourism infrastructure development, leading to the conversion of agricultural land and green open spaces into commercial areas. Using a case study methodology and a qualitative approach, this study gathers data in many sub-districts through documentation, in-depth interviews, and observation, including Sidomulyo, Songgokerto, and Oro-Oro Ombo. The findings indicate that the decline in Green Open Space (GOS) has negatively impacted environmental quality (such as rising temperatures and increased flood risk), disrupted the livelihoods of agricultural communities, and caused economic disparities due to the dominance of the tourism service sector. While tourism contributes to regional income, without sustainable environmental management, the long-term economic potential may decline. Therefore, a tourism development strategy that balances economic growth with environmental preservation is essential.

Abstract

The development of land transport infrastructure plays a strategic role in enhancing regional connectivity, supporting public mobility, and driving economic growth across ASEAN nations. However, the availability of extensive infrastructure does not necessarily guarantee efficient utilization. This study aims to analyze the efficiency of land transport utilization in the ASEAN-5 countries—Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand—during the 2015–2022 period. A quantitative approach was employed using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, specifically the input-oriented Constant Returns to Scale (CRS) model. The input variables included total road length, total paved road length, and the number of motor vehicles, while the output variables comprised the total number of road-based commercial vehicles, urban population, and the transport sector's GDP. The results indicate that the efficiency levels of land transport infrastructure utilization among the ASEAN-5 countries varied throughout the 2015–2022 period. Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei most frequently reached the efficiency frontier, whereas Indonesia and Malaysia did not achieve an efficient state during the study period.

Abstract

Unemployment remains one of the structural challenges faced by nearly every country in the world. Unemployment reflects an imbalance between the growth rate of the labor force and capacity of the economy to create new employment opportunities. The ASEAN-6 region and China face particular challenges in reducing unemployment amid the dynamics of economic challenges in reducing unemployment amid the dynamics of economic growth (GDP), labor force participation rate (LFPR), population growth (PG), and renewable energy consumption (REC) on unemployment in ASEAN 6 countries and China during the 2014-2022 period. This research employs a quantitative approach using panel data covering 7 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and China), with a total of 63 observations. Data were obtained from the World Bank, International Labour Organization (ILO), and International Energy Agency (IEA). The analytical method used is panel data regressions with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The results show that economic growth has a negative and significant effect on unemployment in ASEAN-6 countries and China. Population growth has a negative and significant effect on unemployment in ASEAN-6 countries and China. Renewable energy consumption has a negative and significant effect on unemployment in ASEAN-6 countries and China. Meanwhile, labor force participation rate has not significant effect on unemployment in ASEAN-6 countries and China. Simultaneously, the four variables have a significant effect on unemployment in ASEAN-6 countries and China.
