Abstract

Background : Environmental health in Rejo Sari Hamlet, Karang Tunggal Village, Tenggarong Seberang District, particularly in RT 05, 06, 07, and 17, remains suboptimal due to the accumulation of inorganic waste, the habit of burning garbage, and limited sanitation facilities such as proper latrines and drainage systems. This condition is exacerbated by the low utilization of mosquito- repellent plants, poor household ventilation, and high humidity that supports the breeding of Aedes aegyptimosquitoes, the vector of dengue fever. Objective : To identify and analyze the environmental health conditions in Karang Tunggal Village, Tenggarong Seberang District, focusing on waste management, sanitation, and environmental factors contributing to the risk of mosquito-borne diseases. Research Methods/ Implementation Methods : This study employed a descriptive survey method with both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were collected through direct environmental observations, interviews with residents and community leaders, and questionnaires related to waste management, sanitation facilities, and community hygiene behavior. The data were analyzed descriptively to obtain a comprehensive overview of the environmental health conditions. Results : The findings revealed the accumulation of inorganic waste due to the lack of waste collection facilities and inadequate household waste management. Sanitation conditions were also substandard, with poor ventilation and high humidity supporting mosquito breeding. Interviews showed that 81.7% of respondents still burned household waste, while 78.9% used window screens as a preventive measure against vector-borne diseases. Prior to the educational intervention, most residents were unfamiliar with the 5R concept; however, after the activity, knowledge and understanding of waste segregation and recycling practices improved significantly. Conclusion/Lesson Learned : Environmental health conditions in Karang Tunggal Village remain a significant concern, particularly in waste management and mosquito control. Focused interventions on improving sanitation facilities, enhancing community education on waste management, increasing household ventilation, and promoting the use of mosquito-repellent plants are essential to improve environmental quality and prevent disease transmission.

Abstract

Hipertensi merupakan kondisi meningkatnya tekanan darah secara tidak normal yang berisiko menimbulkan berbagai gangguan pada sistem kardiovaskular, seperti serangan jantung, penyakit jantung koroner, gagal jantung, stroke, serta komplikasi pada organ lain seperti ginjal yang dapat berujung pada gagal ginjal kronis dan kebutaan. Karena sering kali tidak menimbulkan gejala, hipertensi dikenal sebagai silent killer, yang bisa menyebabkan kematian mendadak tanpa disadari penderitanya. Sebagian besar individu tidak mengetahui dirinya mengidap hipertensi hingga melakukan pemeriksaan tekanan darah secara berkala, baik secara mandiri maupun melalui layanan kesehatan seperti puskesmas atau rumah sakit. Sebagai upaya peningkatan kesadaran dan pengendalian hipertensi, dilakukan kegiatan pembinaan dan pendampingan kepada masyarakat agar mampu mengelola kondisi ini secara aktif dan mandiri. Program HIPERTI-KU (Pengendalian Hipertensi untuk Karang Tunggal) diselenggarakan oleh tim pengabdian masyarakat dari Fakultas Kesehatan Masyarakat Universitas Mulawarman bekerja sama dengan mitra Posyandu Melati di Dusun Rejo Sari, Desa Karang Tunggal. Rangkaian kegiatan mencakup sosialisasi, penyuluhan “Tensi Ceria”, senam “Jantung Sehat”, pengingat minum obat melalui WhatsApp (OBATIN), serta pemeriksaan tekanan darah rutin melalui program POSI-TENSI SIMPEL. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi lapangan, kuesioner, dan wawancara singkat dengan 25 responden. Hasil post-test menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan sebesar 39,4%.

Abstract

Abstrak: Sampah anorganik merupakan limbah rumah tangga yang sulit terurai dan berkontribusi besar terhadap pencemaran lingkungan. Tanaman yang dapat dibudidayakan dalam media tanam daur ulang adalah serai (Cymbopogon citratus), yang dikenal mengandung senyawa sitronelal berfungsi sebagai pengusir nyamuk secara alami, termasuk nyamuk Aedes aegypti sebagai vektor penyakit demam berdarah. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan derajat kesehatan masyarakat melalui pengelolaan lingkungan berbasis tanaman. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini di harapkan menambah hardskill dan soft skill yang di miliki oleh masyarakat, hard skill yang dimiliki keterampilan mengolah tanaman serai agar bisa di manfaatkan sebagai alat pengusir nyamuk. Sedangkan soft skill yang dimiliki masyarakat yaitu memiliki pemahaman baru mengenai penanganan dan pengusiran nyamuk Aedes aegypti. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode edukasi berbasis pemberdayaan masyarakat yang melibatkan pendekatan partisipatif melalui penyuluhan dan praktik langsung kepada mitra yaitu karang taruna desa dengan responden sebanyak 25 orang. Evaluasi pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui pre-post test kepada peserta untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan peserta terhadap pengelolaan sampah dan upaya pengendalian penyakit tular vektor. Diperoleh hasil bahwa terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan peserta sebesar 14,28% terhadap materi yang diberikan, khususnya dalam hal pemahaman jenis sampah, dampaknya, serta metode pengelolaannya.Abstract: Inorganic waste is household waste that is difficult to decompose and contributes significantly to environmental pollution. Plants that can be cultivated in recycled planting media are lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), which is known to contain citronellal compounds that function as a natural mosquito repellent, including the Aedes aegypti mosquito as a vector of dengue fever. This activity aims to improve public health through plant-based environmental management. This activity is expected to increase the hard skills possessed by the community, namely the skill of processing lemongrass plants so that they can be used as a mosquito repellent. Meanwhile, the soft skills that the community has are having a new understanding regarding the handling and extermination of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The method used is a community empowerment-based education method that involves a participatory approach through counseling and direct practice to partners, namely the village youth organization with 25 respondents. Evaluation of the implementation was carried out through a pre-posttest to participants to determine the level of knowledge of participants regarding waste management and efforts to control vector-borne diseases. The results showed that there was a 14.28% increase in participants' knowledge regarding the material provided, especially in terms of understanding the types of waste, their impacts, and management methods.
