Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of two forms of trauma, namely psychological trauma and neurosis trauma, in the novel Kidung Rindu di Tapal Batas by Aguk Irawan MN. This study integrates the traumatic theory of Fatmah K. and Diah Retno Ningsih with Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic approach to interpret the psychological dynamics of the characters through three structures of personality: id, ego, and superego. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method through reading techniques and recording data in the form of dialogue, narration, and descriptions that show symptoms of trauma. The analysis is carried out by classifying the types of trauma and interpreting the characters' psychological responses to inner stress and traumatic experiences. The research results show that psychological trauma and neurosis are represented through inner conflict, fear, loss, and guilt experienced by the characters. The dynamics between the id, ego, and superego show how the ego acts as a mediator between instinctual drives and moral control in the face of traumatic stress. Theoretically, this research enriches the study of literary psychology by confirming that literary works function as a reflection of human psychological conditions and a medium for understanding the dynamics of trauma in the context of Indonesian literature.

Abstract

This study investigates the representation of moral stages in Fiersa Besari's novel Garis Waktu, focusing on Lawrence Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development in conjunction with Ian Watt's Sociological Approach to Literature. The primary research problem lies in analyzing how the main character's ethical reasoning evolves under social pressure. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method, the research aims to identify and analyze two specific stages: Conventional Stage 4 (Law and Order Orientation) and Postconventional Stage 5 (Social Contract and Individual Rights Orientation). The findings reveal that the protagonist's moral development reflects a dynamic conflict between adherence to social institutions (Stage 4), often interpreted as the author's and society's emphasis on formal order, and the defense of self-chosen universal principles (Stage 5), mirroring the modern societal struggle between conventional norms and individual rights. This interdisciplinary analysis contributes to both literary sociology and ethical studies by demonstrating how the novel functions as a medium for reflecting complex human moral and social dilemmas. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis tahapan moral dalam novel Garis Waktu karya Fiersa Besari menggunakan Teori Perkembangan Moral Lawrence Kohlberg dan Pendekatan Sosiologi Sastra Ian Watt. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa pembacaan mendalam dan pencatatan kutipan yang relevan. Teknik analisis data dilakukan melalui kategorisasi berdasarkan tahapan moral Kohlberg dan konsep sosiologi sastra Ian Watt,  dilanjutkan dengan penafsiran dan deskripsi mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh protagonis merepresentasikan dua tahapan moral, yaitu: tahapan konvensional tahap 4 (Orientasi Hukum dan Tatanan Sosial) yang tercermin dalam kepatuhan pada norma dan tanggung jawab sosial, serta tahapan pascakonvensional tahap 5 (Orientasi Kontrak Sosial dan Hak Individu) yang tercermin melalui pembelaan terhadap prinsip universal dan hak individu. Perkembangan moral tokoh mencerminkan konflik dinamis antara tuntutan masyarakat akan ketertiban formal dengan perjuangan mempertahankan prinsip-prinsip universal yang dipilih sendiri.
