Abstract

Technological singularity refers to the point at which artificial intelligence (AI) surpasses human intelligence, creating fundamental changes in civilization. This concept involves the exponential acceleration of technological development with significant social, economic and ethical impacts. This research aims to explore singularity as an opportunity or threat to human existence. Through a literature-based qualitative approach, philosophical analysis is used to understand fundamental issues related to ethics, ontology, and the relationship between humans and technology. Singularity has the potential to be a new beginning by enabling the integration of technology and human values, as in the concept of Society 5.0. However, challenges such as technology access gaps, algorithm bias, and misalignment of goals between humans and AI can lead to social dystopia. By examining the relationship between humans and technology, this research provides a critical basis for policy making oriented towards sustainability and prosperity in the era of technological singularity. The results of this research provide new insights into how the singularity can profoundly shape the future of human civilization.

Abstract

This research analyzes Kedai Kopi Masa Moeda Medan as a public sphere from the perspective of Jürgen Habermas's theory and Islamic tradition. The proliferation of contemporary coffee shops in Indonesia raises questions about their function as arenas for critical democratic discourse or merely spaces of consumerism. The research employs a qualitative approach with participatory observation and literature study to analyze physical characteristics, social activities, interaction patterns, and the quality of discourse. Findings reveal that Kedai Kopi Masa Moeda has ambivalent characteristics: discourses on political, economic, and social issues reflect elements of a critical public sphere, yet the space is dominated by entertainment and consumption activities with economic barriers excluding low-income groups and persons with disabilities. The research concludes that the coffee shop only partially fulfills Habermas's public sphere criteria, reflecting the refeudalization of public space from deliberative arena to consumption sphere. Comparative dialogue reveals convergence between Habermas and Islam in emphasizing rational discussion and common interest, yet divergence in secular versus religious orientation and the dimension of Islamic hospitality not accommodated in the Habermasian framework. The implication calls for a contextual Islamic public sphere concept for Indonesian Muslim society.

Abstract

The Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama/KUA) plays a strategic role in fostering sakinah families in Indonesia. This article examines the functions of the KUA through an ontological approach, with a specific focus on KUA Kecamatan Medan Barat as the locus of study, by analyzing the nature of its existence, fundamental structure, and institutional relations within the systems of Islamic law and the state. The study employs a qualitative method combining a philosophical ontological analysis of regulations and policies with field observation and documentation at KUA Kecamatan Medan Barat. Data were collected through document analysis of statutory regulations, Ministry of Religious Affairs policies, relevant literature, and direct field data gathered from KUA Kecamatan Medan Barat. The findings indicate that ontologically, the KUA has three dimensions of existence: as a representation of the state in religious affairs, as an institution implementing Islamic law, and as a social institution responsible for community development. At KUA Kecamatan Medan Barat, these three dimensions manifest in its pre-marital guidance programs, marriage counseling services, and community empowerment activities within the socio-cultural context of Medan Barat. The function of fostering sakinah families is not merely an administrative task, but a manifestation of the state's responsibility to promote family welfare based on Islamic values. This article concludes that an ontological approach provides a deeper understanding of the essence and substantive meaning of the KUA's functions, which are not limited to marriage registration but encompass holistic and sustainable family development
