Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of Pencak Silat coaching models in Indonesia for the 2020-2025 period through a systematic literature review. The research design employs a systematic review method following the PRISMA guidelines to ensure transparency and replicability of the process. Data sources and search strategy include scientific databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, and SINTA, using keyword combinations like "pencak silat coaching model" and Boolean operators. A systematic article screening process was applied, starting from 106 identified records and proceeding through stages of deduplication, relevance screening, and a quality assessment using a scoring system, culminating in 18 final articles meeting the criteria. The data synthesis process involved extracting and thematically analyzing key information from the selected articles, such as objectives, methods, and findings. The results reveal that the research landscape remains dominated by fragmented, evaluative approaches, with infrastructure limitations, coach capacity, and non-technical aspects as primary challenges. The study concludes by emphasizing the urgent need to develop a holistic and contextually appropriate coaching model, supported by applicable policy frameworks for the sustainability of Pencak Silat development.

Abstract

Lung capacity is an important physiological component that plays a role in the performance of middle- and long-distance runners. Breathing exercises based on strengthening respiratory muscles, such as diaphragmatic breathing and balloon-blowing load exercise have been shown to contribute to improved lung function. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of DB and BBE in increasing lung capacity in university runners, taking into account differences in age range. The study used a 2×2 factorial experimental design with two types of exercise diaphragmatic breathing and balloon-blowing load exercise and two age categories ≤19 years and >19 years. The study sample was UNS runners selected through a total sampling technique. All participants underwent a four-week training program with a frequency of three times per week and a duration of 30–45 minutes per session. Lung capacity was measured using spirometry in the pre-test and post-test phases. The results showed that both DB and BBE provided a significant increase in lung capacity compared to baseline. BBE showed a greater increase than DB, indicating the effectiveness of expiratory load in training pulmonary ventilation capacity. The findings confirm that a diaphragmatic control-based breathing intervention and expiratory resistance can induce ventilatory adaptations relevant to a young athletic population. Analysis showed that age and training type did not significantly influence pretest and posttest responses, indicating that both intervention models have the potential for relatively universal benefits for young adult runners. Through a structured, 12-session intervention design, this study adds to the evidence that simple, inexpensive, and easy-to-implement breathing exercises can be an effective strategy for supporting athletes' respiratory function. Limitations such as the small sample size, short intervention duration, and the lack of additional mechanistic measurements suggest the need for further research to provide a more comprehensive picture. Overall, this study makes a significant contribution to the literature on respiratory training and confirms the potential of breathing exercises as an important component of a runner's physical capacity development program.

Abstract

Ageing often causes a decline in strength and balance, increasing the risk of falls in older adults. However, few studies have examined the combination of core stability exercises and paired walking and compared responses based on gender. This study presents a novel approach by applying a 2×2 factorial design to evaluate the effects of both exercises on static and dynamic balance. Forty older adults (20 men and 20 women) participated in 16 training sessions over an eight-week period. Dynamic balance was measured using the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, while static and dynamic balance were assessed using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). The results showed significant improvements: TUG scores decreased from 24.53 to 15.34 seconds (∆ = –9.19 seconds), indicating improved functional mobility and reduced risk of falling. On the BBS, women showed greater static improvement (+10.15 points) than men (+7.95 points), while dynamic improvement was similar in both genders. Clinically, the improvement in TUG to the safe range (<20 seconds) and the increase in BBS scores indicate a relevant improvement in postural stability for fall prevention. Overall, the combination of core stability exercises and paired walking is an effective, inexpensive intervention that can be implemented in community programs to support the mobility and functional independence of older adults.

Abstract

The limited availability of training aids that are safe, ergonomic, and aligned with biomechanical principles has reduced the effectiveness of discus throw technique instruction. This study aims to develop, evaluate the feasibility of, and analyze the effectiveness of a Swing Arm Trainer prototype in improving discus throw technique and throwing strength among novice athletes. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE development model. The research subjects consisted of 20 students who also served as trial participants, including 5 students in a small-scale trial and 15 students in a large-scale trial, selected using a total sampling technique. Data collection methods included observation, literature review, and questionnaires, with research instruments comprising a discus throw performance test and evaluation questionnaires completed by subject-matter experts and media experts. Data analysis was conducted using a paired-sample t-test with a 5% significance level, assisted by SPSS software. The results indicate that the Swing Arm Trainer prototype is valid and reliable, feasible for use based on expert evaluations, and effective in improving discus throw technique and throwing strength. The findings demonstrate that the use of the Swing Arm Trainer prototype leads to a significant improvement in discus throw skills among novice athletes. This study implies that the Swing Arm Trainer can serve as an alternative training medium that is safe, effective, and practical for discus throw instruction and training in schools and sports clubs.

Abstract

COD ability is an important physical element in futsal, which requires numerous accelerations, decelerations, and energy transfers in short spaces. The impact of different training interventions on agility in different age groups is not currently known. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the ladder drill and pro agility drill on COD performance in elite amateur futsal athletes aged 17 years and under (U17) and over 19 years (U19), as well as determine the main effects for age compared with training method. A multistage sequence of changes of direction (COD) was implemented as part of a multi-week intervention in which 32 U17 and U19 athletes were tested for pre- and post-training performance. The results indicated that COD performance significantly increased in all groups after the two different training methods. The average increase in performance was greater in U19 than U17 athletes, which is a surprising finding since this suggests that there may be an effect of age on training response. The type of training also had minimum but significant differences between PAg, which showed a slightly greater effect, especially among U19s. Interaction analysis revealed age depended on the effectiveness of training. The ladder drill proved more effective for U17s and the pro agility drill for U19s. These findings indicate that there are variances in neuromuscular maturation, motor control, and biomechanical capabilities across age. Ladder drills and pro agility drills have been considered effective for training for the improvement of COD performance in young futsal players, but age may influence training response.
