Abstract

Introduction: Stroke can cause various kinds of complications. One of the complications of stroke is dysphagia. Therefore, dysphagia management is necessary for stroke patients with dysphagia. Dysphagia management can be done by screening stroke patients with dysphagia and carrying out swallowing therapy with shaker exercise and effortful swallow. Purpose: This case study aims to evaluate the effect of shaker exercise and effortful swallowing on changes in the degree of dysphagia in patients with stroke. Methods: The method used is case study analysis based on nursing intervention with description analysis. The sample used was a dysphagia patient with a stroke. The instrument used to measure the degree of dysphagia is the Gugging Swallowing Screen (GUSS). Discussion: After the shaker exercise and effortful swallow intervention for 5 consecutive days in the morning and evening, there was a change in the degree of dysphagia from initially getting 4 which means a severe degree of dysphagia with a high risk of aspiration to 18 which means mild dysphagia with a low risk of aspiration. Conclusion: Shaker exercise and effortful swallowing can improve the degree of dysphagia in stroke patients.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is an abnormal increase in blood pressure that can cause persistent symptoms in target organs. Uncontrolled hypertension can lead to complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and stroke. Nonpharmacological therapies that can be done to reduce blood pressure are slow deep breathing and music therapy. Purpose: To determine the effect of a combination of slow deep breathing therapy and music therapy on lowering blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. Methods: The research design used a case study method by providing slow deep breathing and music therapy interventions for 7 days to 2 case study subjects who experienced hypertension. Data collection using observation sheets and standard operating procedures (SOP) slow deep breathing and music therapy. Blood pressure measurement tools use a digital Sphygmomanometer and data analysis using descriptive analysis. Discussion: The implementation results showed that after the combination of slow deep breathing therapy and music therapy for 7 days there was a decrease in blood pressure in both case study subjects. The decrease in blood pressure in case study subject I on the first day after therapy was 198/103 mmHg and after 7 days of therapy it became 178/101 mmHg. In case study subject II, on the first day of intervention, blood pressure was 163/97 mmHg and after intervention for 7 days it became 152/95 mmHg. Conclusion: Combination therapy of slow deep breathing and music therapy can reduce blood pressure in elderly people suffering from hypertension.

Abstract

Introduction: Asthma is one of the most frequently occurring chronic diseases and can be experienced by people of all ages. In asthma patients, problems with less effective airway clearance can arise due to airway spasm. The main management of asthma is maintaining asthma control using asthma management interventions. This case report aims to determine the effect of the butekyo breathing technique on peak expiratory flow (PEF) and oxygen saturation in asthma patients. Purpose: This systematic review aims to determine the effect of the butekyo breathing technique on peak expiratory flow (PEF) and oxygen saturation in asthma patients. Methods: Implementation is carried out based on Evidence Based Practice (EBP). The EBP found concluded that the butekyo breathing technique is a nursing intervention that can be used as an asthma management intervention. Butekyo breathing technique intervention was carried out twice a day for 14 consecutive days. Evaluation of results obtained from monitoring peak expiratory flow (PEF) values using a peak flow meter and oxygen saturation using oxymeter. Discussion: Based on the results of measuring the peak expiratory flow (PEF) value, the APE value before the Butekyo breathing intervention was carried out was an average of 80% to 137.5%. The highest oxygen saturation value appeared at 98%. Conclusion: The results of the implementation that has been carried out are in accordance with evidence based practice (EBP), namely that the butekyo breathing technique has an effect on increasing APE. Patients who had moderate category asthma experienced an increase in peak expiratory flow of 57.5%.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the health problems that requires constant attention. This is because it can affect more serious health conditions for sufferers. The complications that can arise in hypertension cases include heart attack, stroke, aneurysm, kidney failure, eye problems, and can cause death. The actions taken to overcome this risk is by applying non-pharmacological therapy, such as boiled pandan leaves. Purpose: This case study aims to provide an overview of the application of boiled pandan leaves to health problems in hypertention cases in Banteran Village, Sumbang Subdistrict. Methods: This case study was carried out using the case-study analysis method based on nursing intervention. The case study was conducted in November 2023 with research subjects who were sufferers of hypertension. Discussion: The results of this case study show that after being given nursing intervention with non-pharmacological therapy boiled and aromatherapy pandan leaves once a day for 7 days, blood pressure decreased. Conclusion: Application of boiled pandan leaves can reduce blood pressure levels in hypertension health problems.
