Abstract

This study aims to identify economic potential in a particular region by determining the leading sectors and commodities that have high competitiveness. The analysis was conducted using quantitative methods through the Location Quotient (LQ) and Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) approaches that focus on measuring the relative advantages of economic sectors. Based on the results of the LQ analysis, the leading sector identified is the tobacco processing industry with an LQ value of 7.52, indicating a high concentration of activity compared to other regions. The next sector is the gas procurement and ice industry with an LQ value of 6.30, and the food crop subsector in the agricultural sector with an LQ value of 3.76. The RCA analysis revealed that rice is a leading commodity with the highest RCA value, namely 1.64, followed by sweet potatoes with an RCA value of 1.18. Furthermore, the RCACost analysis that takes into account the cost factor of economic activities strengthens the position of rice as a leading and sustainable commodity, with an RCACost value of 1.51.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure of the manufacturing industry in Central Sulawesi, emphasizing intersectoral linkages and their contributions to output and gross value added. Using a quantitative approach based on input and output matrices, the study identifies strategic subsectors capable of generating high multiplier effects on the regional economy. The results indicate a shift in subsector dominance from agriculture and wood-based sectors to natural resource-based industries, particularly base metals and energy processing. This shift is accompanied by weakening forward linkages and increasing dependence on upstream sectors, indicating early signs of deindustrialization and limited manufacturing contribution to strengthening the domestic supply chain. The findings also indicate that only a few subsectors are capable of playing dual roles as users and providers of inputs between industries, narrowing the basis for structural transformation. The implication of this condition is the need for an industrial development strategy that encourages sector diversification, strengthens downstream processing, and improves connectivity between key subsectors. This study provides recommendations for policymakers to direct industrial development toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and long-term orientation, in order to encourage equitable and resilient regional economic growth amidst global dynamics.

Abstract

Regional economic growth is an essential indicator of development performance that reflects the effectiveness of regional economic policies. This study examines the determinants of economic growth in Central Sulawesi Province across 13 municipalities and regencies during the period 2014–2024, focusing on population, labor force, investment, consumption per capita, and capital expenditure. The analysis employs a quantitative approach using panel data regression to assess both the joint and individual effects of these variables on regional economic growth. The empirical results indicate that, collectively, population, labor force, investment, consumption per capita, and capital expenditure significantly influence economic growth across the observed regions. In terms of individual effects, population and labor force are found to have negative and positive coefficients, respectively. However, both are statistically insignificant, indicating no meaningful direct impact on economic growth. Investment shows a positive and statistically significant effect, confirming its important role as a key driver of regional economic expansion. Conversely, consumption per capita has a statistically significant negative effect, suggesting that higher consumption levels are associated with lower economic growth in the region. Meanwhile, capital expenditure does not exhibit a statistically significant effect, implying that its current contribution to economic growth remains limited within the study period.
