Abstract

Cycling ecotourism is a form of sustainable tourism that integrates environmental conservation, healthy lifestyles, and community empowerment. Tuban Regency has considerable potential for development through this concept, yet it remains underutilized. This research aims to design an ecotourism cycle planning strategy that can be implemented in Tuban Regency. This study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-method approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews and route mapping using GPS and ArcGIS. The analysis focused on identifying tourism potential, exploring tourist motivations and preferences, and examining community perceptions. Findings indicate that tourists are primarily motivated by health, stress reduction, and social interaction, while communities generally support the development of cycling routes and related infrastructure. The study proposes five main cycling routes that connect natural and cultural attractions, complemented by infrastructure such as dedicated bike lanes, rest areas, and traffic signage. These initiatives are expected to empower local communities, enhance economic opportunities, and promote environmental sustainability. The cycle ecotourism developed in Tuban Regency has the potential to become a representative model for alternative tourism development, focusing on improving the socio-economic well-being of local communities while contributing to the preservation of the natural environment and cultural heritage. This potential can be realized if implemented through a systematic, inclusive, and sustainable strategy.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze guest perceptions of Permata Hotel Bogor through sentiment analysis of Google Reviews and to examine the gap between location advantage and the resulting tourism experience. The research employs a lexicon-based sentiment analysis approach using AFINN (scoring) and Bing (sentiment classification) methods on approximately 4,661 Indonesian-language reviews. The findings reveal that sentiment distribution is dominated by neutral reviews (±80 - 83%), followed by positive (±13 - 15%) and negative sentiments (±2 - 5%). Concentration of sentiment scores around zero indicates that guest experiences are largely descriptive and lack strong emotional engagement. Despite this, the hotel maintains a relatively high average rating (±4.0, ranging from 3.8 to 4.2), suggesting a gap between cognitive evaluation and affective experience. Textual analysis shows that the hotel’s main strengths lie in its strategic location near the Bogor Botanical Gardens, comfortable rooms, and basic facilities, while its main weaknesses are related to service quality, cleanliness, and maintenance, reflecting service inconsistency. Segment analysis indicates that the FAMILY segment tends to be more positive, the BUSINESS segment is dominated by neutral sentiment, and SOLO travelers are the most critical. Temporal analysis shows relatively stable performance with slight improvement in the post-pandemic period, yet without a significant increase in positive sentiment. Findings indicate the presence of Tourism Spillover Failure, where location advantage fails to translate into leisure demand due to the dominance of functional experience. This research highlights the importance of transforming service delivery into experience-driven hospitality to enhance emotional engagement and improve hotel competitiveness.

Abstract

The hospitality industry increasingly adopts digital learning platforms to improve employee capabilities and maintain service quality. However, empirical evidence regarding the relationships among digital training effectiveness, learning engagement, employee competence, and service quality remains limited, particularly within hotel organizations. This research investigates the influence of the perceived effectiveness of Typsy-based training on learning engagement, employee competence, and service quality among employees of Swiss-Bel hotel Bogor. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed using a cross-sectional survey design. Data were collected from 100 hotel employees who actively used the Typsy digital learning platform. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. The findings reveal that the perceived effectiveness of Typsy-based training significantly influences learning engagement and employee competence. Learning engagement also has a positive effect on employee competence, while employee competence demonstrates the strongest influence on service quality. The results indicate that digital training effectiveness contributes both directly and indirectly to service quality through the development of employee competence. This study extends the literature on digital workplace learning and hospitality human resource development by demonstrating the importance of employee engagement and competence as mechanisms linking digital training to service outcomes. The findings also provide practical implications for hotel managers seeking to utilize digital learning platforms as strategic tools for competency development and service excellence.
