Abstract

Movie posters not only serve as promotional tools but also as visual communication media that convey deep messages related to the themes and values presented in the film. The poster for Tuhan Izinkan Aku Berdosa is particularly interesting to analyze due to its complex use of visual elements and text in representing moral conflict, sin, and redemption. This study aims to identify and analyze the meanings of icons, indexes, and symbols in the film poster using Peircean semiotics. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a Peircean semiotic analysis tec nique, which classifies signs into three main categories: icons, indexes, and symbols. The findings reveal that the iconography of the main characters’ faces reflects inner conflict and emotional turmoil, the color index and character positioning depict a spiritual journey and moral value opposition, while the symbolism in the title and golden color represents the moral paradox emphasized in the film. In conclusion, the Tuhan Izinkan Aku Berdosa poster is not merely aesthetic but also rich in meaning, allowing for diverse interpretations among audiences. This study highlights the importance of semiotic analysis in understanding visual communication in film media.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how Indonesian women who simultaneously fulfill the roles of wife, mother, professional worker, and postgraduate student manage multiple role conflicts through interpersonal and intrapersonal communication. Using a qualitative case study design, six postgraduate students from the University of Indonesia were purposively selected as participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate three major themes. First, interpersonal communication with spouses, family members, colleagues, and academic peers facilitates mutual understanding and role negotiation. Second, intrapersonal communication, such as self-reflection and emotional regulation, helps participants cope with guilt, fatigue, and academic pressure. Third, social support networks emerging from effective communication enable participants to sustain their motivation and maintain balance across domestic, professional, and academic domains. These findings highlight that communication functions as a practical strategy for managing multiple identities and mitigating the effects of role conflict. The study offers implications for developing gender-sensitive communication training and institutional support systems to empower women in higher education and the workplace.

Abstract

Media play a crucial role in disaster risk communication by shaping public understanding and perception of potential hazards. In Indonesia, intensive media coverage of the potential megathrust earthquake, particularly during the period when the issue became widely viral in mid to late 2024, raised public concern regarding the amplification of risk perception. This study examines the effect of media exposure on the amplification of risk perception related to the potential megathrust earthquake in Indonesia, with self-relevance and news credibility as moderating variables. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 185 respondents and analysed using moderated regression analysis with the PROCESS Macro (Model 3) developed by Hayes to examine both direct and interaction effects. The results indicate that media exposure has a positive and significant effect on risk perception. Self-relevance strengthens the relationship between media exposure and risk perception, while news credibility moderates this relationship, particularly when self-relevance is low. The overall model demonstrates strong explanatory power (R² = 0.897), indicating a substantial contribution of the proposed variables in explaining variations in risk perception. This study contributes theoretically to the literature on risk communication and the Social Amplification of Risk Framework by demonstrating that the amplification of disaster risk perception is not solely driven by media exposure, but is contingent upon individual relevance and perceived credibility of news sources. Practically, the findings underscore the importance of responsible disaster communication strategies that balance public awareness with the prevention of excessive fear.
