Abstract

Objective: This research explores the existence of career women in Egypt from social, cultural, and economic perspectives. The study aims to understand the challenges and opportunities faced by women in the workforce, highlighting factors influencing their career progression. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework is grounded in gender equality concepts, social role theory, and the influence of patriarchal culture on women's workforce participation. Literature Review: The literature review encompasses previous studies on gender discrimination, work-family dynamics, and inclusive policies supporting career women, particularly in Middle Eastern countries. Methods: A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews. The survey involved 300 women, while in-depth interviews were conducted with 30 participants selected based on their diverse employment sectors and social backgrounds. This approach provided a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced and opportunities available to career women in Egypt. Results: The results revealed that supportive workplace environments and family backing significantly enhance women's career advancement. Additionally, most participants emphasized the need for improved policies promoting gender equality in the workplace, including flexible work arrangements and access to professional training programs. Despite progress in women's participation across various sectors, barriers such as societal expectations, gender-based discrimination, and work-life balance challenges persist. Implications: The implications of this research underscore the importance of adopting gender-equality policies, cultural reforms, and empowering women through education and workforce training. This study provides a significant contribution to understanding the complexities surrounding women in Egypt’s workforce. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its integrated analysis of social, cultural, and economic factors, offering a holistic perspective on the experiences of career women in the country. It also highlights the need for a synergy between policy reforms and cultural shifts to create more inclusive work environments. In conclusion, while there has been progress in recognizing and supporting career women in Egypt, ongoing efforts are necessary to address existing gaps. These efforts should include progressive policies and cultural paradigm shifts to sustainably empower women and enhance their participation in the workforce.

Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the implications of the Congregational Dawn Prayer Movement (Gerakan Subuh Berjamaah) in Palembang City for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the context of sustainable human resource development. Theoretical framework: The study is grounded in a theoretical framework of social action theory and Islamic spiritual empowerment, with particular reference to the role of religion in public policy and community development. Literature review: A review of relevant literature highlights the increasing recognition of religious movements as catalysts for holistic development, yet few studies have addressed their direct connection to SDGs. Methods: Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, this research utilizes participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation as its main data collection techniques. The researcher’s active involvement in the movement provides nuanced insights into its processes and effects. Results: The findings reveal that the Congregational Dawn Prayer Movement, as institutionalized by Palembang Mayor Regulation No. 69 of 2018, extends beyond religious observance. It promotes empowerment across multiple sectors: religious (increased spiritual awareness), social (strengthened community bonds), cultural (revitalization of local Islamic values), economic (micro-business encouragement), political (citizen engagement), and educational (Islamic learning initiatives). Implications: These multidimensional impacts demonstrate how faith-based initiatives can serve as strategic tools for achieving the SDGs, especially in the areas of quality education (SDG 4), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), sustainable communities (SDG 11), and partnerships (SDG 17). Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its integrative analysis of a religious movement through the lens of the SDGs, emphasizing the transformative potential of Islamic social action within local governance frameworks.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of murabahah contracts in Islamic financial institutions, focusing on the implementation mechanism, the application of sharia principles, and the challenges faced in the transaction process. This study also explores how the implementation of murabahah contracts contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting inclusive economic growth (SDG 8), strengthening financial institutions (SDG 16), and supporting ethical consumption and production patterns (SDG 12). Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework used in this study is based on Islamic economic principles and sharia provisions related to murabahah contracts, including the important role of cooperation with third parties such as suppliers. It is contextualized with the SDGs framework to assess the alignment between Islamic finance practices and global development goals. Literature review: A literature review is conducted through a literacy study that collects various views and previous findings regarding the practice of murabahah contracts in Islamic financial institutions. The review also includes discussions on how Islamic finance can serve as a tool for achieving SDGs, particularly in enhancing financial inclusion and responsible financing. Methods: The method used is a qualitative approach with literature studies as the main data collection technique. Results: The results of the study show that even though the murabahah contract is theoretically in line with sharia principles, in practice there are still various obstacles such as unclear costs and uncertainty between related parties. In addition, cooperation with suppliers as third parties is considered important for smooth transactions but requires strict supervision to remain in accordance with sharia rules. Effective murabahah implementation supports SDGs by ensuring equitable access to financing and enhancing trust in Islamic financial systems. Implications: The implication of this study is the need to increase sharia efficiency and compliance in the implementation of murabahah contracts, especially in the aspects of transparency and supervision of third parties. These improvements are crucial to align Islamic financial practices with SDGs, particularly in ensuring justice, accountability, and sustainable economic systems. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in a comprehensive discussion of the strategic role of cooperation with suppliers in the implementation of murabahah contracts, which has not been studied in depth in previous studies.
