Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) addresses global issues related to the development of science and artificial intelligence (AI). PAI encourages the pursuit of knowledge as part of worship, as taught in the Qur'an, and can align science with Islamic values to understand Allah SWT's creation. The development of AI raises ethical issues, such as privacy, discrimination, unemployment, and security risks, while also opening opportunities for halal innovation. From the perspective of PAI, AI must be used in accordance with the maqasid sharia for the common good, avoiding misuse that contradicts the principles of honesty and justice. Recommendations include updating the PAI curriculum to improve AI literacy. In conclusion, PAI can serve as a guide for the responsible use of AI, making it a tool for harmony between religion, science, and technology.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of differentiated learning in the subject of Islamic Religious Education and Ethics in the Independent Curriculum at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jakarta. This study uses mixed methods with a concurrent embedded model, where the qualitative approach is the main method and is strengthened by descriptive quantitative data. The analytical framework refers to Carol Ann Tomlinson's theory which includes three main pillars: philosophy, principles, and practice. The results of the study show that differentiated learning has been implemented effectively starting from the planning, implementation, to evaluation stages. PAI teachers actively adjust learning strategies based on the results of diagnostic assessments that identify students' readiness, interests, and learning styles. In the process, various learning methods such as discussions, worship practices, visual media, and content-based creative projects are used. The effectiveness of differentiated learning is also reinforced by quantitative data showing a significant improvement in the distribution of student grades. Prior to the implementation of differentiated learning (semester 1), most student scores were centered in the range of 85–87, with a mode and median score of 86, and only 3.3% of students reached the highest score range (88–90). After the implementation in semester 2, as many as 26.7% of students reached the score range of 91–93, with an increase in the mode and median to 91. This shows a shift in academic performance collectively towards a higher level. Students respond positively to this approach; They feel cared for, motivated, and more confident in following learning. Thus, these findings show that the implementation of differentiated learning in schools has proven to be effective in meeting the learning needs of students optimally in the learning process of Islamic Religious Education and Ethics.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Outcome-Based Curriculum (OBC) at SMP Raudlotul Muta’allimin, a religious-based school that is undergoing transformation toward more measurable and structured education. OBC is considered relevant in preparing students with competencies required to face global challenges, yet its application in a religious school context presents unique dynamics. The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences, perceptions, and challenges faced by teachers and students in the implementation of OBC, using a qualitative approach based on a case study. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 10 teachers and 20 students, as well as participatory observation of teaching and learning activities. Data analysis was performed using thematic analysis, which allowed the researcher to identify patterns of meaning in participants' experiences. The main findings indicate that although OBC has a positive impact on increasing student engagement and achieving more measurable competencies, challenges remain regarding time constraints, limited resources, and resistance to change. This study contributes to the development of outcome-based education theory by highlighting the importance of teacher involvement in the curriculum design process and maintaining a balance between global standards and local values. Practically, the findings can serve as a reference for curriculum development in religious-based schools and provide insights for policymakers in effectively integrating OBC.
