Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between physical education and students’ mental health through a literature review of ten national journals published between 2020 and 2025. The analysis summarizes findings related to the role of physical activity, social interaction, and instructional processes in supporting students’ psychological well-being. The results indicate that physical education contributes significantly to reducing stress levels, improving mood, and enhancing self-confidence and social skills. Although several studies report statistically insignificant effects, the overall literature consistently highlights the strategic importance of physical education in promoting mental health, particularly when implemented through effective and developmentally appropriate pedagogical approaches. These findings emphasize the vital role of physical education as a holistic instrument supporting both physical and mental development among students.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to describe the role of Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) teachers in enhancing students’ enthusiasm for learning physical education at SMA Negeri 5 Tanjung Jabung Timur. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study approach. Subjects included the principal, PJOK teachers, and students selected using purposive sampling. Data co.llection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data validity was tested using source triangulation, while data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that PJOK teachers act as motivators, facilitators, guides, and role models in learning. This role has been proven to increase students’ enthusiasm, activeness, and enthusiasm for learning in PJOK learning, although several obstacles remain that need to be addressed through a more personalized and varied approach. Keywords: PJOK Teacher, Learning Enthusiasm, PJOK Learning.   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran Guru Pendidikan Jasmani, Olahraga, dan Kesehatan (PJOK) dalam meningkatkan semangat belajar penjaskes siswa di SMA Negeri 5 Tanjung Jabung Timur. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas kepala sekolah, guru PJOK, dan siswa yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi. Keabsahan data diuji menggunakan triangulasi sumber, sedangkan analisis data dilakukan melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru PJOK berperan sebagai motivator, fasilitator, pembimbing, dan teladan dalam pembelajaran. Peran tersebut terbukti mampu meningkatkan antusiasme, keaktifan, dan semangat belajar siswa dalam mengikuti pembelajaran PJOK, meskipun masih terdapat beberapa hambatan yang perlu diatasi melalui pendekatan yang lebih personal dan variatif.
