Abstract

Evidence from the past five years has highlighted increasing interest in pharmacological adjuncts at improving transurethral resection of the the prostate (TURP). Both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational research have investigated the role of carbazochrome sodium sulfonate (CSS), with varying results. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of CSS in transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The review was conducted in accordance with the Prefrred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. A comprehensive search of Embase, PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library was performed. Eligible studies included cohort studies, case-control methodologies, and RCT investigations related to CSS in TURP procedures and reporting outcomes such as blood loss and complications. Five RCTs comprising a total of 550 participants met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicated that CSS was associated with a significant reduction in intraoperative bleeding compared with tranexamic acid (TXA). Across all studies, CSS exhibited a favorable safety profile, with no severe adverse effects reported. CSS appears to be a promising advancement in managing perioperative bleeding during TURP procedures for BPH. Its hemostatic efficacy and safety profile suggest potential benefits for surgical outcomes and patient recovery. Nevertheless, further high-quality, large-scale studies are warranted to establish standardized treatment protocols and to clarify optimal role of CSS in contemporary urological practice.

Abstract

Objective: This report aims to document the occurrence of testicular torsion in adult males, explicitly highlighting a case involving a 43-year-old man. It emphasizes the importance of maintaining awareness of this condition within the productive age group. Case(s) Presentation: We present a rare unilateral late-onset left testicular torsion case in a 43-year-old male. Testicular torsion is predominantly observed in youth and teenagers, making its diagnosis infrequent in mature individuals. The patient experienced acute testicular pain along with atypical symptoms, which are crucial for the accurate diagnosis of adult testicular torsion. Discussion: Testicular torsion is the most prevalent surgical emergency concerning the testis, primarily affecting younger populations. This case underscores that adult males are also susceptible to this condition, necessitating a high index of suspicion among healthcare providers. Notably, acute testicular pain in adults may not always manifest in a typical manner, complicating timely diagnosis and treatment. Conclusion: This case serves as an essential reminder for healthcare professionals to remain vigilant regarding the potential for testicular torsion in adult males, particularly those in the productive age group. Early recognition and intervention are critical to preventing complications associated with ischemia, underscoring the need for heightened awareness and prompt assessment in such scenarios. By doing so, healthcare providers can significantly improve outcomes for affected patients. Keywords: Adult, testicular torsion, left testicular.

Abstract

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a prevalent malignancy in men, often treated with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), which can lead to significant adverse effects, including changes in psychological well-being and relationship dynamics. This study explores how ADT affects attachment styles and love attitudes in PCa patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional analysis involving PCa patients treated at the Department of Urology between July and October 2022. 150 patients completed questionnaires assessing demographic profiles, the Adult Attachment Scale (AAS), and the Love Attitude Scale (LAS). Data evaluation was executed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, the Independent t-test, Pearson’s chi-square test, and the Mann-Whitney U test using IBM SPSS Statistics 26.Results: PCa patients undergoing ADT were compared with those not receiving ADT, with significant differences in education level, employment status, age, and marital duration (p 0.05). PCa patients receiving ADT exhibited increased amounts of anxious (49.3%) and avoidant (48%) attachment styles compared to the non-ADT group, which showed a predominance of secure attachment (50.7%). The ADT group favored the Mania (22.7%) love style, while the non-ADT group exhibited Agape (34.7%) love styles. Statistical analyses revealed significant differences in attachment and love styles between the groups (p 0.001).Conclusions: Prolonged ADT is associated with shifts towards insecure attachment and obsessive love styles, adversely affecting emotional well-being. Future research should focus on the role of testosterone levels in these dynamics.
