Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of rewards on the motivation to learn Arabic in class VII B MTsN 4 Surabaya City and to assess the extent to which rewards contribute to increasing that motivation. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design, and data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire that had previously been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that rewards have a very strong relationship with learning motivation, indicated by a Pearson correlation value of r = 0.82. Simple linear regression analysis also showed an R² value of 0.67, which means that 67% of changes in student learning motivation were influenced by rewards. The regression equation Learning Motivation = 22.39 + 0.57 × Reward confirms the positive influence of rewards on increasing student motivation. Rewards have been shown to support cognitive development, such as the courage to read texts and the ability to memorize vocabulary, while also providing psychological impacts in the form of increased self-confidence, participation, and decreased anxiety in learning. These findings demonstrate that rewards are a practical yet effective learning strategy implemented in madrasah environments. Although this study has limitations in the number of samples and the scope of the research location, the results still provide valuable contributions in developing strategies to increase motivation to learn Arabic. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh pemberian reward terhadap motivasi belajar Bahasa Arab siswa kelas VII B MTsN 4 Kota Surabaya sekaligus menilai sejauh mana reward berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan motivasi tersebut. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional, dan data dikumpulkan melalui angket berskala Likert yang sebelumnya telah diuji validitas serta reliabilitasnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa reward memiliki hubungan yang sangat kuat dengan motivasi belajar, ditandai dengan nilai korelasi Pearson r = 0,82. Analisis regresi linear sederhana juga menunjukkan nilai R² sebesar 0,67, yang berarti bahwa 67% perubahan motivasi belajar siswa dipengaruhi oleh pemberian reward. Persamaan regresi Motivasi Belajar = 22,39 + 0,57 × Reward menegaskan adanya pengaruh positif reward terhadap peningkatan motivasi siswa. Reward terbukti mendukung perkembangan kognitif, seperti keberanian membaca teks dan kemampuan menghafal mufradat, sekaligus memberikan dampak psikologis berupa meningkatnya kepercayaan diri, partisipasi, dan menurunnya kecemasan dalam belajar. Temuan ini memperlihatkan bahwa reward merupakan strategi pembelajaran yang praktis namun efektif diterapkan di lingkungan madrasah. Meskipun penelitian ini memiliki batasan pada jumlah sampel dan lingkup lokasi penelitian, hasilnya tetap memberikan kontribusi berharga dalam pengembangan strategi peningkatan motivasi belajar Bahasa Arab.
