Abstract

Strengthening character values is one of the main objectives of national education that must be systematically internalized through the learning process, in which Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in shaping students’ religious and social character. This study aimed to describe and analyze the planning, implementation, and evaluation of quality PAI learning in strengthening students’ character values at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Surakarta in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, using in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation studies as data collection techniques. Data were analyzed using the interactive Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that character strengthening is consistently integrated into lesson planning, into the implementation of learning that emphasizes role modeling and habituation of values, and into evaluation that covers cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects. Quality PAI learning that is carefully designed and implemented is shown to contribute positively to the formation of students’ religious character, discipline, responsibility, and social concern.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the significance of Ki Hajar Dewantara’s role in formulating the philosophical foundations of Indonesian education, despite the limited depth of academic exploration into the contribution and contemporary relevance of his thought. The objective of this research is to examine Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational philosophy, particularly the principles Ing Ngarsa Sung Tulada, Ing Madya Mangun Karsa, and Tut Wuri Handayani, and to analyze their influence on the development of the national education system. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the study employs content analysis and cross-validation of primary and secondary sources, including historical documents, biographical records, and expert interpretations. The findings reveal that Ki Hajar Dewantara’s philosophy serves as a foundational pillar in the formation of character education, participatory leadership, and holistic student development. The establishment of Taman Siswa is a concrete manifestation of these ideas, significantly contributing to expanding educational access, preserving national culture, and fostering national consciousness during the colonial and post-independence periods. Nevertheless, the application of his philosophy in the modern era faces challenges in contextualizing its values within the dynamic landscape of contemporary educational policy and systems. The study concludes that Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational thought remains highly relevant in addressing current educational challenges, particularly in promoting student-centered learning grounded in cultural values. Its implications include a theoretical contribution to the discourse on national educational philosophy and practical recommendations for educators and policymakers to align educational practices with foundational national values.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited scholarly attention to early childhood education (PAUD) from an Islamic theological perspective, despite its strategic role in laying the foundation for sustainable educational development. The objective of this research is to explore the concept, methods, and strategic relevance of PAUD according to the Qur’an and Hadith. Using a qualitative approach, the study analyzes twelve classical and contemporary Islamic texts selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through document analysis and examined using thematic content analysis, referencing tafsir, sharh hadith, and Islamic educational theory. The findings reveal that Islam emphasizes the significance of early childhood education as a critical phase for instilling tawhid, moral values, and a lifelong learning orientation. This concept aligns with the goals of early character development and educational continuity. The study concludes that PAUD plays a vital role in preparing children intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, forming the foundation for subsequent educational stages. The implications of this research include theoretical contributions to Islamic pedagogy and early childhood education literature, as well as practical recommendations for educators, policymakers, and parents in designing PAUD programs that integrate Islamic values with developmentally appropriate approaches. Furthermore, this research opens avenues for future studies on integrating Islamic PAUD frameworks with national curricula and teacher training programs.

Abstract

The limited scope of existing studies on the role of Islamic educational philosophy in the management of Islamic educational institutions forms the background of this research, despite its significant impact on governance quality and educational direction. This study aims to explore the contribution of Islamic educational philosophy to management practices at SD IT Hidayatullah Yogyakarta and to identify the key challenges in its implementation. A qualitative design was employed, using purposive sampling to select eight participants, including the principal, teachers, and administrative staff. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The findings reveal that Islamic educational philosophy serves as a foundational framework in formulating the school’s vision and mission, strengthening religious culture, integrating the curriculum, and fostering teacher role models. However, implementation faces several obstacles, such as limited conceptual understanding among educators, a gap between ideal values and actual practices, and challenges in aligning with national curriculum requirements. The study concludes that Islamic educational philosophy plays a strategic role in shaping institutional management systems and school culture, but its successful implementation depends on strengthening human resource capacity and the ability to adapt to local contexts. These findings offer theoretical implications for the development of Islamic education management studies, as well as practical recommendations for stakeholders in designing Islamic value-based training and managerial models.

Abstract

Understanding differences, particularly in the context of religious beliefs is not an easy task, as it touches the most fundamental aspects of a person’s value system and identity. It requires an open heart and the awareness that every human being is created in diversity by Allah (SWT). Physical differences may be relatively easier to accept, but when the differences pertain to beliefs and religious teachings, each of which claims absolute truth the potential for conflict increases significantly. Every religion teaches a non-negotiable truth, including Islam. While such absolutism is valid within the theological domain, it can become a source of tension if not accompanied by a wise understanding of diversity. Within the framework of pluralism, understanding differences does not mean equating or blending beliefs, but rather recognizing their existence as part of the divine reality that must be respected. Differences are not to be eliminated but embraced as a strength for building cooperation, reinforcing human solidarity, and achieving a harmonious life. Therefore, tolerance toward religious differences is essential for fostering dignified and civilized human relations.
