Abstract

One of the evaluation models generally used in prevention programs is the Kirkpatrick evaluation. The model is used to escort the evaluation program closer to its effectiveness. Kirkpatrick's framework consists of four levels: reaction, learning, behaviour, and result. The purpose of the current research was to assess the validity of the Kirkpatrick evaluation model instrument for drug prevention programs in primary school students in Malaysia. This study used a survey research design by involving 692 primary school students in Malaysia. Three procedures were used to analyse the data in this research, namely Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Cronbach Alpha. EFA revealed the structure of the Kirkpatrick evaluation model which the reaction level has 12 items, the learning level has 8 items, the behaviour level has 6 items, and the result level has 6 items. At the same time, the CFA results showed that the model fit indices established a four-factor structure. Finally, the evaluation model has Cronbach's alpha value of .952, which exceeds the standard (.70 or above). It can be concluded that the Kirkpatrick evaluation model instrument was acceptable and reliable to assess the level of drug prevention programs among primary school students in Malaysia.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of two questionnaires used in drug education in Malaysian secondary schools: Teachers' Self-Efficacy (TSE) and Teaching Competency (TC). The questionnaires, originally in English, were translated into Malay for participants, who included 43 secondary school teachers and 9 educational experts from three public universities in Malaysia. The findings showed that items with an acceptance rate above 70% supported the content and construct validity of the instruments. However, experts recommended excluding two TC items for being repetitive and unrelated. The reliability test revealed a Cronbach's alpha of .973 for the TSE and .964 for the TC, indicating both questionnaires' trustworthiness. The study concluded that the TSE and TC are valid and reliable tools for research in drug education. The researchers emphasized the importance of these factors in teachers' drug education effectiveness and recommended that government policy support efforts to enhance teachers' self-efficacy and teaching competency in this area.

Abstract

The current research aimed to assess the validity of the decision-making process in the substance use instrument among secondary school students in Malaysia. This research used a survey research design. The current research participants were 211 secondary school students in Johor, Selangor, and Kedah, Malaysia. Two procedures were used to analyse the data: exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). EFA with comprehensive techniques that compromise parallel analysis and minimum average partial (MAP) yielded a 5-factor solution: avoidant decision making, rational decision making, spontaneous decision making, dependent decision making, and intuitive decision making. Furthermore, the factors attain a minimum standard of Communalities (.30 to 1.0) and factor loading (>.50). The structure of the instrument was then confirmed through Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with adequate fit indices such as RMSEA (<06 to .08), CFI, TLI (.80), and CMIN (<5). The instrument validation and reliability were tested through AVE, CR, and Cronbach's alpha.
