Abstract

The rise in disciplinary issues among school students has become a cause for concern with challenges in managing and curbing negative activities. Employing counselling interventions, particularly the 'Brief Therapy' approach has proven effective in addressing student misbehaviour. This study proposes the development of a counselling intervention module to specifically tackle promiscuous behaviour among high school students. The module integrates Motivational Interviewing, based on the Trans theoretical Model and Stages of Change. Additionally, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy complements Motivational Interviewing to expedite the treatment process. The module construction follows a two-level, nine-step framework. The study aims to deepen understanding of behaviour change processes, ultimately reducing disruptive behaviour. Special attention and mastery of this new approach by counsellors and practitioners are crucial. Moreover, aligning with the Malaysian Education Development Plan 2013-2025 (PPPM), the study contributes to strategic planning in schools, emphasizing the development of students' potential.

Abstract

The humans` psychological needs can lead to frustration or satisfaction. Satisfaction with regard to basic psychological needs is characterized as an energetic situation that causes a rise in confidence as well as a healthy motivational orientation promoting wellness. The aims of this study were to adapt the Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale (BPNSFS) for use in Malaysia and to indicate how levels of need satisfaction and frustration are related to the daily life of students in the classroom. The three core psychological demands of competence, autonomy, and relatedness are taken into account in the scale's measurement of satisfaction and frustration. The researchers relied on Brislin's (1970) outline of the back-translation method's basic framework to carry out the process of translating this instrument. To carry out the translation process, a total of eight qualified linguists who are experts in the language field were utilized. Other than that, the researcher employed the external critic approach to evaluate the content validity and linguistics. In general, expert assessors accepted the BPNSNF instrument items. It can be concluded the current research offers researchers a tool to evaluate students' basic psychological need satisfaction and frustration among adolescents.

Abstract

The needs analysis in this study was carried out to develop a module for teachers who face stress, anxiety, and depression. The research uses qualitative data collection methods using interviews with three Education Counselors and four teachers from the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM). The researcher has built two objectives in the study of the needs that are carried out a) exploring stress, anxiety, and depression among teachers; and b) exploring the need to develop a module for teachers who face stress, anxiety, and depression. The findings of the study show that there is a need for researchers to develop modules to help teachers who experience stress, anxiety, and depression. Based on the study's objectives, the researcher conducted an interview session with three Counselors and four teachers at the KPM and found 11 themes. Based on the findings of the needs study conducted, the researcher will focus on the themes in the development of the module.

Abstract

The problem of discipline and moral decay nowadays in society in Malaysia is very concerning, especially among children and teenagers, as it spreads very fast and keeps being very difficult to deal with. Drug abuse is a big problem that is spreading among the world community and this will have a very bad effect especially the development of human capital. This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of Drug Prevention Programs among children at school. From this Program we want to know the level of awareness, knowledge, skills, and spirituality among children. This study has used quantitative design and is supported by qualitative data. The first phase is a case study that uses the interview with teachers and government anti-drug agency officers who are involved in the implementation of the program. For the second phase of the study, researchers have used the survey method by distributing questionnaires to the recipient subjects, who are primary school students in at-risk states who have been selected to follow the drug prevention program. The results of the survey show that all the indicators of the effectiveness of the participants, namely awareness, knowledge, skills, and spirituality, have a high percentage, with percentage values of 78.0%, 93.4%, 84.2%, and 93.4%. Overall, of the study show that the implementation of the drug prevention program in schools has achieved its objectives, in addition to paying attention to the effectiveness factors as well as the obstacles and weaknesses encountered.

Abstract

This study explores the use of expressive art activities as a tool to help teachers experiencing stress, anxiety, and depression. It employs a qualitative approach with the case study method. The sample consists of four teachers from a district in the State of Selangor. Data were collected through interviews and document analysis. The data were then analyzed using the pattern-matching method, grouping the data into themes, subthemes, or categories with specific codes. The study's findings indicate that art activities in individual counseling sessions offer an alternative approach for counselors to provide services. Eleven themes emerged from the study: session implementation procedures, harmony in relationships, health status for survival, role adaptation, significant individual support, hope to remain enthusiastic, calmness under stress, personal values, expressive art activities that guide overall behavior, counselor skills, and integration modules that positively impact clients. The findings suggest that personal values influence clients' lifestyles in achieving their desired goals.

Abstract

One of the evaluation models generally used in prevention programs is the Kirkpatrick evaluation. The model is used to escort the evaluation program closer to its effectiveness. Kirkpatrick's framework consists of four levels: reaction, learning, behaviour, and result. The purpose of the current research was to assess the validity of the Kirkpatrick evaluation model instrument for drug prevention programs in primary school students in Malaysia. This study used a survey research design by involving 692 primary school students in Malaysia. Three procedures were used to analyse the data in this research, namely Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Cronbach Alpha. EFA revealed the structure of the Kirkpatrick evaluation model which the reaction level has 12 items, the learning level has 8 items, the behaviour level has 6 items, and the result level has 6 items. At the same time, the CFA results showed that the model fit indices established a four-factor structure. Finally, the evaluation model has Cronbach's alpha value of .952, which exceeds the standard (.70 or above). It can be concluded that the Kirkpatrick evaluation model instrument was acceptable and reliable to assess the level of drug prevention programs among primary school students in Malaysia.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the validity and reliability of two questionnaires used in drug education in Malaysian secondary schools: Teachers' Self-Efficacy (TSE) and Teaching Competency (TC). The questionnaires, originally in English, were translated into Malay for participants, who included 43 secondary school teachers and 9 educational experts from three public universities in Malaysia. The findings showed that items with an acceptance rate above 70% supported the content and construct validity of the instruments. However, experts recommended excluding two TC items for being repetitive and unrelated. The reliability test revealed a Cronbach's alpha of .973 for the TSE and .964 for the TC, indicating both questionnaires' trustworthiness. The study concluded that the TSE and TC are valid and reliable tools for research in drug education. The researchers emphasized the importance of these factors in teachers' drug education effectiveness and recommended that government policy support efforts to enhance teachers' self-efficacy and teaching competency in this area.

Abstract

The current research aimed to assess the validity of the decision-making process in the substance use instrument among secondary school students in Malaysia. This research used a survey research design. The current research participants were 211 secondary school students in Johor, Selangor, and Kedah, Malaysia. Two procedures were used to analyse the data: exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). EFA with comprehensive techniques that compromise parallel analysis and minimum average partial (MAP) yielded a 5-factor solution: avoidant decision making, rational decision making, spontaneous decision making, dependent decision making, and intuitive decision making. Furthermore, the factors attain a minimum standard of Communalities (.30 to 1.0) and factor loading (>.50). The structure of the instrument was then confirmed through Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with adequate fit indices such as RMSEA (<06 to .08), CFI, TLI (.80), and CMIN (<5). The instrument validation and reliability were tested through AVE, CR, and Cronbach's alpha.
