Abstract

Constipation is a global health problem experienced by about 14% of the adult population and 30% of the elderly. Around 23% occurs in women and 11% in men in Asia, including Indonesia. The aim of the study was to provide acupuncture care for constipation cases at Sely Meting Independent Practice, Pluit, North Jakarta. The research method used was a case study, with a sample of 1 person using purposive sampling, and data collection was carried out using a client data sheet instrument (DSI). The acupuncture points used in the therapy were LI4, KI6, LI11, SP15, BL25, ST25, ST44. The therapy was provided in 12 sessions, twice a week for 6 weeks. The analysis of the case study results used content analysis. Research using the case study method found a significant difference between the first therapy session and the twelfth therapy session. Patient complaints in the final session improved from difficulty in bowel movements to normal. Acupuncture therapy at this point can be recommended to therapists in managing patients based on syndromes and a high-fibre diet therapy.

Abstract

Dismenore primer merupakan keluhan menstruasi yang umum dialami remaja dan perempuan usia produktif serta dapat mengganggu aktivitas dan kualitas hidup. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas terapi akupunktur dalam menurunkan intensitas nyeri pada dismenore primer. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus di Praktik Akupunktur Mandiri di Bekasi pada April–Mei 2024. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan lembar data klien melalui pemeriksaan akupunktur komprehensif, meliputi observasi, wawancara, palpasi, pemeriksaan lidah dan nadi, dilanjutkan penegakan sindrom serta pengukuran nyeri menggunakan Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Intervensi diberikan pada fase pra-menstruasi dan dievaluasi secara berurutan. Hasil menunjukkan perbaikan klinis berupa penurunan nyeri haid, membaiknya kualitas tidur, serta meningkatnya kemampuan aktivitas. Skala nyeri menurun dari NRS 8 pada siklus sebelumnya menjadi NRS 5 pada siklus berikutnya, sehingga partisipan tetap dapat beraktivitas sepanjang hari. Kesimpulannya, terapi akupunktur berpotensi menjadi pendekatan nonfarmakologis yang bermanfaat dalam menurunkan intensitas nyeri pada dismenore primer pada kasus yang dilaporkan.

Abstract

Background: Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infectious disease with a high risk of recurrence and potential complications if not properly managed. In addition to pharmacological treatment, safe complementary approaches may help support symptom improvement. Acupuncture is a complementary therapy that has been applied in various urinary system disorders. This study aimed to explore the benefits of acupuncture care for a patient with UTI at Klinik Sehat Kanidee, Bogor. Methods: A clinical case study design with a descriptive qualitative approach was used. The subject was one patient diagnosed with UTI. Acupuncture therapy was administered in six sessions, twice weekly. Diagnosis and evaluation were conducted using the four diagnostic methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Results: Outcome measures included changes in dysuria, urinary frequency, sensation of incomplete voiding, and overall patient condition. After six sessions, the patient showed gradual improvement in the main UTI symptoms. Dysuria and the sensation of incomplete voiding resolved, urinary frequency returned to normal, and the general condition improved. From an acupuncture perspective, improvement in Spleen and Kidney Qi deficiency syndrome was observed. Conclusion: Conclusion: Acupuncture may provide clinical benefits and can be considered a complementary therapy in UTI management.
