Abstract

The development of social media has made TikTok an important space for shaping public opinion, disseminating information, and practicing digital education. One public figure who actively uses this platform is Dr. Richard Lee, a cosmetic doctor known for his educational content and criticism of illegal skincare products. His assertive, forthright, and straightforward communication style often causes controversy while strengthening his image as an honest and courageous doctor. This study aims to analyze how educational discourse and controversy are constructed in Dr. Richard Lee's TikTok content using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model. The study was conducted by analyzing the text structure, social cognition, and social context of a number of relevant TikTok videos. The results show that educational discourse is constructed through the affirmation of scientific values, the use of evidence, and an informative style of language, while controversial discourse emerges through sharp criticism, the use of emotional diction, and expressions of rejection of cosmetic industry practices that are considered harmful to society. In addition, the discourse of authenticity is also evident through claims of impartiality and transparency in every product review. Overall, this discourse shows that language in social media functions as a means of education, resistance, and self-image formation.

Abstract

Abstrak bahasa Indonesia  Penelitian ini membahas fenomena variasi bahasa yang muncul dalam podcast Denny Sumargo ketika ibunda Timoty menyampaikan keterangan terkait perbedaan informasi mengenai lantai kejadian, yang kemudian memunculkan pernyataan tegas “Bukan lantai 2 tapi lantai 4.” Fenomena ini dianalisis untuk melihat bagaimana perubahan pilihan kata, nada tutur, dan koreksi spontan digunakan penutur untuk memperjelas informasi di situasi percakapan yang sensitif. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan menganalisis potongan percakapan dalam podcast. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi bahasa muncul dalam bentuk perbaikan informasi, penegasan nada, pengulangan, serta perubahan struktur kalimat yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan penekanan. Variasi tersebut memiliki fungsi untuk meluruskan informasi, memperkuat keseriusan penutur, dan memastikan pendengar memahami poin yang dianggap penting. Kata Kunci: Variasi bahasa, Podcast, Denny Sumargo Abstrak bahasa Inggris  This study examines the phenomenon of language variation that emerged in Denny Sumargo's podcast when Timothy's mother provided information regarding discrepancies regarding the floor where the incident occurred, leading to the assertion, "Not the 2nd floor, but the 4th floor." This phenomenon was analyzed to see how changes in word choice, tone, and spontaneous corrections were used by the speaker to clarify information in sensitive conversational situations. A descriptive qualitative method was used, analyzing conversational excerpts from the podcast. The results show that language variation emerged in the form of information corrections, emphasis on tone, repetition, and changes in sentence structure to accommodate emphasis. These variations serve to clarify information, reinforce the speaker's seriousness, and ensure listeners understand key points. Keywords: Language variation, Podcast, Denny Sumargo
