Abstract

Misinterpretation of the meaning of the Messiah among the Jews made them repeatedly make mistakes that ended in tragedy. Of the three rebellions in the Judeo-Roman War, the Bar Kokbha war (132-135 AD) brought a change in perspective on the Messiah. The Roman occupation fostered political messianism among the Jews so they expected a Messiah who had military power as their liberator. The impact of the first war (66-70 AD) brought about the collapse of the Temple but the Bar Kokhba war prevented Jews from entering Jerusalem for 3-4 centuries so that the Jewish diaspora was scattered throughout the world. The qualitative approach shows that Rome wanted to remove all Jewish identity as a permanent solution to suppress the Jewish rebellion. Simon bar Kokhba's momentary victory evoked euphoria among the Jews of the coming of the Messiah. They considered Simon bar Kokhba to be the Messiah awaited with confirmation from Rabbi Akiva. But after the revolt was thwarted and humiliated by Rome, there was confusion in the Jewish community. They regard Simon bar Kokhba as a swindler. The understanding of political messianism shifted to post-war eschatological messianism which inflicted heavy losses on the Jews.

Abstract

Migration with various motifs in it is a phenomenon that has long been known in the Bible. The migration of the Terah family, Jacob's family, Naomi's family and even Joseph's small family are examples of migration written in the scriptures. Most of Paul and Peter's letters are also addressed to diaspora Christians. In fact, Christians are foreigners on this earth. The dynamics experienced by them as migrants are also experienced by migrants in the modern era. Migration of people from conflict countries to the European Union in 2015 is interesting to study with the problems in it. Migrants experience social pressures and cultural clashes even though the European Union is also subject to UN Conventions and the EU Declaration of Human Rights. Migration carried out can be in the form of skilled migration, refugees (refugees) or asylum seekers (asylum seekers). The cultural clash between local residents and immigrants in Europe is a test of the value of European justice and freedom. The discourse that occurs tries to present the problem more clearly and objectively.

Abstract

The church has a dynamic view of sport from a historical perspective. The celebration of Istmian games in the Greek and Roman eras gave a perspective that sport in ancient culture was part of the worship of the gods. Even so, the Apostle Paul actually accommodated sports matches as an illustration of the struggle for the faith of believers in his message to the congregation in Corinth. At that time Corinth regularly held Istmian games as a paganistic worship of Poseidon. The church fathers had pros and cons views on sports activities and tournaments. But then the paradigm shift became positive as the influence of polytheism and Hellenism receded in the celebration of sport. This research was conducted qualitatively with a historical theological approach. Sports actually have a positive impact on physical health. It also trains teamwork and communication, and forms a disciplined and sporty personality.

Abstract

This research aims to explore and understand the meaning of social togetherness in the community carried out by followers of Ugamo Malim and the Protestants. Social togetherness is defined as the interaction, involvement, and relationship between individuals in a community group. Through a field research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, this research focuses on two different communities, namely Ugamo Malim followers and the Protestants. The methodological steps involved data collection through in-depth interviews as the main instrument. Interviews were conducted with three resource persons from each of the Ugamo Malim and the Protestants parties to gain an in-depth understanding of the concept of social togetherness. The qualitative data collected will be carefully analyzed to identify patterns, values, and beliefs that shape the meaning of social togetherness in the two communities. The results of the study are expected to provide a deep insight into how Ugamo Malim followers and the Protestants interpret and experience social togetherness. The comparison between the two groups is expected to identify similarities and differences in perceptions, practices, and values that underlie social togetherness. The implications of this research are expected to contribute to a cross-cultural understanding of the importance of social togetherness in shaping community solidarity and cohesion.

Abstract

This article explores theological school students’ perspectives on the Book of Ecclesiastes (Qoheleth) which influences the formation of their work ethic. Research reveals how understanding the Book of Ecclesiastes influences their attitudes and views toward work, calling, and spiritual ministry. The Book of Ecclesiastes is sometimes misunderstood as a book that emphasizes pessimism, but analysis shows that the message conveyed is actually realistic. The Book of Ecclesiastes actually teaches the importance of responsibility, discipline and integrity at work. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach but is accompanied by interviews with 30 seminary students to provide a rich diversity of student perspectives on the Book of Ecclesiastes in the context of student work ethic. The results show that many students face challenges in developing a good work ethic due to laziness, procrastinating, and other unethical actions. The discussion in this article illustrates how a correct understanding of this book can form a strong and responsible work ethic for theology students. Concrete steps such as coaching, establishing a conducive learning culture, curriculum review, and education about the importance of theological education are proposed to improve student work ethic. It is hoped that a correct understanding of the message of the Book of Ecclesiastes will help theological school students to develop a strong work ethic, integrity, and responsibility in carrying out their duties.
