Abstract

Kata kunci: Pendekatan PMR, pemahaman konsep, operasi hitung bilangan bulat Abstract: The RME approach was developed to help students understand mathematical concepts by linking them to real contexts that are relevant to everyday life. Lack of understanding of concepts in learning mathematics can affect student learning outcomes, especially in the material of integer counting operations. This study aims to analyze the effect of the RME approach on understanding the concept of integer arithmetic operations among seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Tanah Siang. The method used was quasi-experiment with one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 22 students. Data collection techniques were carried out with validity tests, observations, and tests. Then the data were analyzed based on the implementation of learning with the RME approach, the ability to understand students' concepts in the RME approach, as well as the N-Gain test, normality test, and Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the implementation of learning with the RME approach was very good, with a percentage of implementation of 93.85%. The average score of students' posttest increased to 58.27, classified as quite good. There is a significant difference between the conditions before and after the application of the RME approach based on the Wilcoxon test, while the increase in concept understanding is in the moderate category based on the N-Gain analysis of 0.315. This shows that the RMEapproach has influence on students' ability to understand the concept of integer arithmetic operations in class VII of SMPN 1 Tanah Siang, Murung Raya Regency. Keywords: Realistic Mathematics Education Approach, conceptual understanding, integer arithmetic operations
