Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of the Grammatical hunting strategy in improving the reading ability of class VII D students of MTsN 2 Sidoarjo. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The Grammatical hunting strategy is implemented through activities to search for grammatical elements (fi'il, isim, and huruf) in the text that actively involve students, followed by group discussions and presentations of the analysis results. The research findings show a significant increase in students' ability to identify grammatical elements, from 29% to 73.5%, as well as an increase in reading comprehension completion reaching 61%. In addition, this strategy is proven to be able to foster critical thinking skills, strengthen motivation, and create more interactive learning. Thus, Grammatical hunting can be recommended as an effective, innovative learning method to improve the reading skills and grammatical comprehension of Arabic language students in Islamic junior high schools. The application of this method is expected to be a reference for educators to design more creative, participatory, and sustainable learning, as well as open up opportunities for further research in different educational contexts and levels.

Abstract

Low students’ learning motivation and limited vocabulary (mufrodat) mastery remain persistent challenges in Arabic language learning, leading to low student engagement and overall learning outcomes. This study aims to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through the implementation of the drill method supported by flashcard media. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with the researcher acting as the instructor in the Arabic language learning process involving 32 seventh-grade students. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and questionnaires to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the teaching and learning process and students’ responses. The results indicate that the systematic application of the drill method combined with flashcard media enhances students’ vocabulary retention, pronunciation accuracy, and learning enthusiasm. Flashcards function as visual stimuli that support memory reinforcement, while repetitive practice through the drill method deepens students’ understanding of vocabulary. In addition, students demonstrate increased motivation, self-confidence, and active participation during classroom activities. Therefore, the integration of the drill method and flashcard media proves to be an effective and enjoyable learning strategy for improving vocabulary mastery in Arabic language learning and can serve as an alternative approach for teachers in developing vocabulary instruction.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in Madrasah Tsanawiyah still faces the problem of students’ low maharah kalam (speaking skill). One of the factors contributing to this condition is students’ limited vocabulary mastery and the lack of optimal integration between vocabulary learning and speaking practice. Vocabulary is often taught separately and focused on memorization, which causes students to experience difficulties in applying vocabulary in oral communication. This study aims to examine the use of integrative vocabulary materials implemented by teachers in improving students’ maharah kalam skills at a Madrasah Tsanawiyah. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method and was conducted at a state Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning activities. The findings indicate that the use of integrative vocabulary materials can improve students’ speaking fluency, confidence in using Arabic orally, and accuracy in vocabulary usage during maharah kalam activities. In addition, this strategy encourages students’ activeness and participation throughout the learning process. This study contributes to the development of Arabic language learning based on integrative vocabulary instruction and provides practical implications for teachers in designing more communicative and contextual learning to enhance students’ speaking skills.
