Abstract

This study aims to examine the dynamics of anxiety in a housewife who experienced relational trauma as a result of spousal infidelity, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of individual counseling using the Cognitive Restructuring technique. The research subject was Melati (a pseudonym), a housewife who exhibited symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress following the infidelity incident. The methods employed included clinical interviews, observation, and the use of psychological assessment instruments, namely the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-42), and Sentence Completion Test (SSCT). The assessment results indicated that Melati experienced moderate anxiety based on HARS, as well as severe levels of anxiety and depression according to DASS-42. The Cognitive Restructuring intervention, conducted over three sessions, demonstrated positive outcomes in the form of reduced anxiety intensity, increased awareness of irrational thought patterns, and the emergence of more adaptive alternative thoughts and behaviors. These findings highlight the importance of a cognitive approach in addressing anxiety resulting from relational trauma within the context of marriage.

Abstract

Abstract Burnout in taekwondo athletes encompasses emotional exhaustion, a decline in personal achievement, and devaluation of sports activities. Hardiness is considered one of the contributing factors to the occurrence of burnout. This study aims to examine the relationship between hardiness and burnout among student taekwondo athletes in Surabaya. The research employed a quantitative correlational method involving 285 student athletes selected through purposive sampling. The measurement instruments used were the hardiness scale based on Kobasa’s theory (1979) and the burnout scale based on the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ) developed by Raedeke & Smith (2001). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rho correlation test. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between burnout and hardiness, suggesting that higher levels of hardiness are associated with higher levels of burnout in taekwondo athletes, and vice versa. High levels of burnout among athletes can cause distractions during training and hinder performance. Therefore, further studies are needed to explore hardiness and other variables that may contribute to athlete burnout. Keywords: Burnout; Hardiness; Student-athletes; Taekwondo Abstrak Burnout pada atlet taekwondo mencakup kondisi kelelahan emosional, penurunan pencapaian pribadi, serta devaluasi terhadap aktivitas olahraga. Hardiness adalah salah satu penyebab dari adanya burnout yang terjadi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji hubungan antara hardiness dengan burnout pada siswa atlet taekwondo di Kota Surabaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif korelasional dengan melibatkan 285 siswa atlet sebagai partisipan yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Alat ukur yang digunakan yaitu skala hardiness berdasarkan teori Kobasa (1979) dan skala burnout berdasarkan Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ) dari Raedeke & Smith (2001). Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji korelasi Spearman Rho. Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara burnout dengan hardiness, yang artinya ketika hardiness tinggi, maka burnout pada atlet taekwondo akan tinggi pula dan begitu sebaliknya. Burnout pada atlet tinggi membuat distraksi terhadap latihan dan pencapainnya. Sehingga perlunya dikaji lebih lanjut terkait hardiness dan variabel lain yang menjadi penyebab burnout pada atlet. Abstract

Abstract Fresh graduates are individuals who have completed higher education and are in a transitional phase toward entering the workforce. Challenges such as intense job competition and limited work experience often hinder their ability to secure employment, potentially leading to psychological pressure and a decline in self-confidence and optimism. This study aims to examine the relationship between social support and self-confidence with optimism among bachelor's degree graduates who are currently seeking employment in Surabaya. The research used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A total of 335 undergraduate alumni participated in this study. The instruments used included a social support scale, a self-confidence scale, and an optimism scale. Data analysis was conducted using a non-parametric correlation test due to the data not meeting assumptions of normality and linearity. The findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between social support and optimism. This indicates that higher levels of social support are associated with greater optimism in facing the job search process. Furthermore, self-confidence also showed a positive and significant relationship with optimism, meaning that higher self-confidence leads to greater optimism during the job-seeking journey. These results are expected to serve as a foundation for developing psychological interventions to enhance optimism among recent graduates. Abstrak Fresh graduate ialah individu yang telah menyelesaikan jenjang pendidikan tinggi serta sedang ada pada tahap peralihan menuju dunia kerja. Tantangan seperti ketatnya persaingan dan minimnya pengalaman sering kali menjadi penghalang dalam memperoleh pekerjaan, yang dapat menimbulkan tekanan psikologis serta menurunkan rasa percaya diri dan tingkat optimisme. Penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara dukungan sosial serta kepercayaan diri dengan optimisme pada lulusan sarjana yang tengah mencari pekerjaan di Kota Surabaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif pada desain korelasional. Sebanyak 335 lulusan sarjana menjadi partisipan dalam penelitian ini. Instrumen yang digunakan mencakup skala dukungan sosial, skala kepercayaan diri, dan skala optimisme. Analisis data dilakukan dengan uji korelasi non-parametrik karena data tidak memenuhi asumsi normalitas dan linearitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara dukungan sosial dan optimisme. Artinya, semakin besar dukungan sosial yang diterima lulusan baru, semakin tinggi pula optimisme mereka dalam menghadapi proses pencarian kerja. Selain itu, kepercayaan diri juga memiliki hubungan positif serta signifikan pada optimisme, yang berarti bahwa makin tinggi kepercayaan diri yang dimiliki, semakin besar optimisme dalam menjalani proses pencarian pekerjaan. Hasil ini diharapkan menjadi dasar bagi pengembangan intervensi psikologis untuk meningkatkan optimisme lulusan baru Kata kunci: Fresh Graduate; Dukungan Sosial; Kepercayaan Diri; Optimisme; Pencarian Kerja.

Abstract

Abstract Students balancing academic and work responsibilities often encounter complex challenges. The ability to adjust to career shifts is crucial for sustaining performance and personal growth. This research explores how psychological hardiness contributes to improving career adaptability among employed students. Utilizing a quantitative correlational approach, the study involved 386 active working students selected through purposive sampling. The instruments comprised a career adaptability scale covering four dimensions and a psychological hardiness scale with three core dimensions. Data were analyzed using correlation methods via statistical software. The results indicated that students with higher psychological hardiness tend to possess stronger career adaptability. In conclusion, hardiness serves as a vital psychological base that enables working students to manage dual roles, maintain productivity, and navigate career-related challenges effectively. Abstrak Mahasiswa yang menjalani peran ganda sebagai pelajar dan pekerja menghadapi tantangan yang cukup kompleks. Kemampuan untuk menyesuaikan diri dengan dinamika karier menjadi aspek penting dalam menjaga kinerja dan pengembangan diri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran ketahanan psikologis yaitu hardiness dalam meningkatkan kemampuan adaptasi karier pada mahasiswa yang bekerja. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif korelasional dengan melibatkan 386 mahasiswa aktif yang bekerja, dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Alat ukur yang digunakan mencakup skala adaptabilitas karier yang terdiri dari empat dimensi, serta skala hardiness yang mencakup tiga dimensi utama. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik korelasi dengan bantuan perangkat lunak statistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan tingkat ketahanan psikologis yang tinggi cenderung memiliki kemampuan adaptasi karier yang lebih baik. Secara keseluruhan, hardiness berfungsi sebagai fondasi penting yang membantu mahasiswa bekerja dalam menghadapi peran ganda, tetap produktif, dan mampu menghadapi tantangan karier secara efektif.
