Abstract

Analytical thinking is essential for physics education students, yet comprehensive assessment remains challenging. This study investigates the distribution and characteristics of analytical thinking abilities using Rasch model analysis, examining gender differences and performance patterns. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 35 physics education students (20 females, 15 males) using a 20-item multiple-choice assessment covering four domains: identifying problems, recognizing relational patterns, identifying reasoning errors, and summarizing main ideas. Data were analyzed using Winsteps software to examine person abilities and group comparisons. Results revealed highly variable analytical thinking abilities (range = 8.84 logits, M = -0.15, SD = 1.79). Males outperformed females by 0.46 logits (males: M = 0.15; females: M = -0.31), though not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Three performance levels emerged: high achievers (25.7%, n = 9), average achievers (48.6%, n = 17), and low achievers (25.7%, n = 9). The findings reveal significant heterogeneity in analytical thinking abilities with observable gender-based differences. Results suggest the need for differentiated instructional approaches tailored to varying ability levels and targeted interventions to support struggling students. This study demonstrates the utility of Rasch analysis in identifying areas for instructional improvement and optimizing analytical thinking development in physics education contexts

Abstract

Presented as a case study, this qualitative inquiry seeks to provide an overview of the outcomes of the Ecoprint business-driven women's economic empowerment program in Metro City. This study delves into the pivotal role of women's economic empowerment in augmenting household income and overall prosperity. Data collection encompassed interviews, observations, and documentation, facilitated by non-test instruments such as interview, observation, and documentation guidelines. The collected data underwent qualitative descriptive analysis, enhanced by source triangulation for validity. This analytical process involved data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show how the women's economic empowerment program transforms housewives from home-bound roles to empowered women contributing to family finances through skills like crafting Ecoprint and Shibori fabrics. This shift results in heightened family income. This research underscores the potential for empowering housewives to uplift family economies, underscoring the significance of such opportunities for improved household prosperity.

Abstract

This study developed an Android-based physics learning media integrating local wisdom—Perahu Dayung (Rowing Boat)—to improve student engagement and contextual understanding of Newtonian mechanics. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Four-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), the study began with classroom observations, interviews, and literature review to identify learning needs. The media was designed with a storyboard and prototype, then developed using Unity 3D. Expert validation involved physics lecturers, teachers, and peer reviewers. Trials included 10 students (limited) and 20 tenth-grade students (field trial) at Ferdy Ferry Putra Senior High School, Jambi, using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Instruments included tests and evaluation sheets. The resulting app, Fisika Asik, features interactive quizzes, animations, and cultural content. Validation scores were high for content (4.6) and media (4.4). Learning outcomes showed moderate improvement with a normalized gain of 0.38. The results indicate the media is effective, engaging, and culturally relevant. Integrating local culture offers a contextualized learning approach. Further studies are recommended to expand testing and enhance features.
