Abstract

Depression is a psychological disorder that affects aspects of affection, physiology, cognition, and individual behavior, and has an impact on significant changes in daily life. Data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (2023) shows a national prevalence of depression of 1.4%, with the age group of 15-24 years recording the highest rate of 2%. One approach that is considered safe and effective in managing depression is mindfulness meditation. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of meditation on depression through a journal review approach. Although meditation has several limitations, such as considerable time requirements, challenges in forming habits, discomfort in consistency of practice, and non-instantaneous results, various studies have shown significant benefits of meditation in improving mental health, including in managing social anxiety disorder, PTSD, generalized anxiety, and depression.
