Abstract

The Faculty of Nursing Building at Universitas Timor is a critical academic facility designed in accordance with SNI 1726:2019 and SNI 2847:2019. Despite compliance with these standards, its structural capacity and seismic performance have not been thoroughly verified. This study evaluates the building’s structural behavior using a nonlinear static pushover approach. Structural data were derived from design drawings and modeled in ETABS to simulate seismic demands for 250- and 1000-year return periods. Section-level nonlinear behavior was examined using XTRACT and ETABS Section Designer to define plastic hinge properties and overstrength factors. The results demonstrate that the building’s lateral capacity exceeds the seismic demand for both hazard levels. Performance assessment based on interstory drift limits prescribed by ASCE 41-17 indicates Immediate Occupancy (IO) for the 250-year earthquake and Life Safety (LS) for the 1000-year earthquake. However, the predicted collapse mechanism is undesirable, as initial yielding occurs in the column elements. Overall, the structure exhibits satisfactory seismic capacity and performance.

Abstract

Bekasi Regency, West Java, is located in a seismically active region of Indonesia, making seismic performance evaluation important for assessing the safety and reliability of reinforced concrete buildings. This study evaluates the seismic performance of a special dual reinforced concrete structural system using the Nonlinear Static Pushover (NSP) procedure in accordance with ASCE/SEI 41-17. A three-dimensional structural model was developed in ETABS v22, with nonlinear behavior represented using plastic hinges for beams and columns and fiber-based hinges for structural walls. The building response was evaluated under the Design Basis Earthquake (DBE) and Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) hazard levels using performance-point response, interstory drift ratios, and plastic hinge development. Under the DBE level, the maximum interstory drift ratios were 0.976% and 0.785% in the X- and Y-directions, respectively, satisfying the 1.0% acceptance limit for the Immediate Occupancy (IO) performance level. Under the MCE level, the maximum drift ratios were 1.776% and 1.265% in the X- and Y-directions, respectively, remaining below the 2.0% acceptance limit for the Life Safety (LS) performance level. Plastic hinge evaluation showed that no structural elements progressed to the LS or Collapse Prevention (CP) levels. The results indicate that the investigated dual structural system provides adequate seismic performance and satisfies the specified acceptance criteria under both hazard levels.
